There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile
.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

.

1. La piel siempre se me seca en el invierno.

My skin always gets dry in the winter.

2. Los tipis originales se construían con pieles de animales.

The original teepees were made with animal hides.

Hoy por la mañana fuimos al centro de salud, para que la enfermera retirara los puntos de la piel de mi marido. Está sanando bien después de la operación para reparar el tobillo roto con piezas metálicas.

This morning we went to the Health Center so that the nurse would take out the stitches from my husband's skin. It is healing well after the operation, which he had to repair his broken ankle with pieces of metal.

Hola Cruce: Esta vez, vamos a ver si te puedo dar las correcciones en español.:) - DilKen, May 8, 2015
Tu traducción de "estos" tiene que estar en el plural. - DilKen, May 8, 2015
"Es necesario" requiere un pronombre. - DilKen, May 8, 2015
Tu palabra Inglés que significa "porque" en Espanol requiere la preposición "de" - DilKen, May 8, 2015
¿Debo usar "from" u "of" para esto? - - crucesignatus, May 8, 2015
"De" como en "una botella de agua," no "de" como en "Cruce viene de Perú.:) - DilKen, May 8, 2015
¿Estás seguro que es una preposición? - crucesignatus, May 8, 2015
¿Así: "of because"? - crucesignatus, May 8, 2015
Debe poner "de" después "porque", no antes. - DilKen, May 8, 2015
Of is a preposition, in this case, we have the compound preposition "because of" see:http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/british/because-of - DilKen, May 8, 2015
En español "because of" es "a causa de". http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/because of - DilKen, May 8, 2015
"Because of" can also be "por" or "debido a" as you used here in your Spanish sentence. - DilKen, May 8, 2015
We use "because" when there is a verbal phrase following it. We use "because of" when there is no verb following. - DilKen, May 8, 2015
For example: "...because there is a danger of skin cancer." "because of the danger of skin cancer." - DilKen, May 8, 2015
Gracias por todas las correcciones Ken. :) - crucesignatus, May 8, 2015
There always was a danger, but we didn't always realize it. Hola Cru. :) - rac1, May 8, 2015

El famoso escritor francés Balzac tiene un libro „ La piel de burro””. Esta piel es mágica, que cumple todos los deseos de su propietario , pero en cada caso disminuye. Y junto a esto la vida del héroe se reducirá también .

The famous French writer, Balzac has a book „ The donkey skin „. This skin is magic, that fulfills all desires of its owner, but in every case it diminishes. And together of that the life of the hero will be reduced also.

Cuando los indios americanos cazado búfalo, ninguna parte fue a perder. La carne fue cocinada por comida, sus pieles se convirtió en ropa, y sus huesos tenían varios usos.

When the American Indians hunted buffalo, no part went to waste. The meat was cooked for food, their hides became clothing, and their bones had various uses.

El gobierno canadiense ha apoyado la matanza de focas bebés desde hace años aunque muchos se han manifestado contra el concepto de matar cachorros indefensos mediante el uso de un hakapik sólo para que la gente pueda llevar sus pieles.

The Canadian government has supported the slaughter of baby seals for many years even though many people have protested against the concept of killing defenseless pups using a hakapik only so that people can wear their furs.

jeje yes I understand, those kinds of mistakes happen when you don't use the language you are learning, gracias! - Pablo064, May 8, 2015
Canadian point of view: http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/seal-phoque/faq-eng.htm: Canada remains steadfast in its position that the seal harvest is a humane, sustainable and well-regulated activity. Any views to the contrary are based on myths and misinfo - bosquederoble, May 8, 2015
Seals are not usually harvested until they are 25 days or older. A hakapik is an efficient tool designed to harvest the animal quickly and humanely. A number of Canadians depend on the seal harvest as a way to subsidize their income. - bosquederoble, May 8, 2015
Apparently I should have used the word "harvest" instead of "slaughter". - bosquederoble, May 8, 2015

Yes, thanks, everything else went fine, which was good since last time our arranged ride did not show up to pick us up at the hotel- but we were back with our usual service this time- no cost cutting. - bosquederoble, May 8, 2015
It looks horrible, I agree, but it is technically no different from fishing or any other killing animals for use. Possible they also want to reduce the seal, population because they hunt fish too - jennysk, May 9, 2015
Ah, good, a logical answer. :) - bosquederoble, May 9, 2015
