How do you say mens shoes?

  1. I though it was "Los zapatos de hombres" but google'ing it gave me some results with "Los zapatos de hombre" so which is correct. And if it's hombre(not hombres), why? Feels like it should be hombres to me.

  2. One of the results said "LOS ZAPATOS DE HOMBRE EN LOS AÑOS 40" what does that mean? and I thought numbers were before the noun, so "..de hombre en cuarenta años" or something?

In this case when we use "de" and followed by a noun, the phrase becomes an adjective phrase, so the singular then is correct: Zapatos / calzado de hombre.

One of the results said "LOS ZAPATOS DE HOMBRE EN LOS AÑOS 40" what does that mean?

"Shoes for men in their 40s".

Hmm Could you link me somewhere that explains a bit about the de + nount -> phrase ebcomes adjective? To better understad it. -- Isn't numbers supposed to be before the noun? ".. en los cuarenta años"? http://www.spanishdict.com/topics/show/20 - Sha11e, May 6, 2015
Thanks Julian. My very first thought was calzados de hombres. But since para was already out there I went with that. Its good to know my instinct was okay this time. Very rare event. jajaja - gringojrf, May 6, 2015
Can anyone explain the "de + noun = adjective phrase"? I tried googling it but found nothing.. Trying to understand why it's hombre and not hombres. - Sha11e, May 7, 2015

Well, I learned that men's clothing is "la ropa para hombres" so I'd think "los zapatos para hombres" would be correct. I'd love to hear what a native Spanish speaker says.

Also, I just looked up "size" and one of the words is "tamaño".

Los zapatos de hombres. It needs to agree in number and gender and it is possessive hence "the men's shoes" smile

Unless you want to say "the shoes for men". Either way they are pretty interchangeable. - irisheilis, May 6, 2015
I disagree, the correct way shoud be: Zapatos de hombre. Zapatos de hombres is really strange, - txustaboy, May 6, 2015

Also "calzados para hombres". Here in Baja calzados is used almost equally with zapatos.
