thank you note for a sympathy card

I'd like to send a thank you note for a sympathy card I received. I'd like to say something like, "I received the card from the Bible study group over the weekend. I appreciate your kind words at the passing of my father; they were a comfort and balm to my soul. Thank you most especially for your continued prayers"

would that be "Recibi la tarjeta de simpatía de parte de el grupo de estudio Biblico sobre el fin de semana. Aprecio sus palabras amables en el fallecimiento de mi padre; fueron un bálsamo y consuelo para mi alma. Gracias muy especialmente por sus oraciones continuas" ??

Hello MHarrison,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

I have read through your post and I would like to offer you some corrections:

Recibí la tarjeta de simpatía de parte del grupo para el estudio de la biblia durante el fin de semana. Aprecio sus palabras de consuelo tras el fallecimiento de mi padre, me consalaron mucho a mi. Gracias espécialmente (o sobre todo) por sus oraciones que siguen orando para mi.

1.de parte del grupo

2.para el estudio de la biblia

3.durante el fin de semana

4 You can be more specific and say: palabras de consuelo = Words of comfort or consolation.

I hope this helps smile

I am not a native speaker so you may wish to wait for confirmation from a native/fluent Spanish speaker before using the complete translation above; I believe that the individual notes 1-4 are correct.

Corrijan mi español si necesario, por favor smile

Thank you for your suggestions. I have a concern over "las consolaron mucho a mi"... Wouldn't that be, "me consolaron mucho"? - mharrison12, May 4, 2015
Yes, You are right! I was forgetting that the word 'they' was already covered by the verb consolation conjugated for they ! :) - FELIZ77, May 4, 2015
