Please check my answers for the following assignment. My answers are in bold.

Te escribo porque hoy (1) está nublado y Enrique y yo no vamos a ir a la playa. El hotel (2) está en un lugar maravilloso cerca del mar, pero tenemos muy mala suerte porque llueve casi todos los días. Para colmo (to top it all), Enrique (3) está enfermo desde el lunes pasado. ¡Este viaje (4) es muy aburrido! Nosotros (5) estamos muy cansados, pero ya no podemos cambiar los pasajes. Ah, y ¿recuerdas a Emilia? La visitamos ayer. Ella (6) está trabajando y estudiando al mismo tiempo. Ahora, (7) está muy enamorada. Su nuevo novio también (8) es muy trabajador. Él (9) es programador. Pero bueno no hablo más de Emilia. Y tú, ¿cómo (10) estás ?

Reasons for my answers: 1) Describes weather. 2) Describes location. 3) Describes health of a person. 4) It is boring. Estar would be used if the writer wanted to say, "it is bored" (but that wouldn't make sense here). 5) Temporary state of being. 6) Estar is always used with present participle. 7) Temporary state of being. 8) Characteristic. 9) Occupation. 10) Asking about the health of another.

From what I can see, and I am not a native Spanish speaker, they all look fine to me...totally correct! Great work ...well done!

Your reasons are good too...I would just advise you not to depend too much on the temporary/permenant distinctions associated with estar and ser, respectively! These distinctions can be superficial and can mislead students learning Spanish!
