There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

enter image description here
.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

.

1. La gente que trabaja en esa oficina del departamento de vehículos motorizados es tan grosera.

The people who work at that office of the department of motor vehicles are so rude.

2. Ese comediante se hizo famoso por ser grosero.

That comedian became famous by being vulgar.

Original: Cuanto menos respondes a las personas argumentativas críticas groseras, la más pacífica tu vida llegará a ser.

Corrected: Cuanto menos respondes a las personas argumentativas, críticas y groseras, la más pacifica va llegar a ser tu vida.

¡Muchas gracias Crucesignatu, Tiempo, and Rac smile Thank you,

The less you respond to rude, critical, argumentative people, the more peaceful your life will become.

Mate, you must write: "...argumentativas, críticas y groseras; tu vida llegará a ser la más pacífica." - crucesignatus, Apr 25, 2015
or en 'cuanto menos 'crucesignatus' correction',(no 'la') mas pacifica va llegar a ser tu vida.' :) - Pablo064, Apr 25, 2015
Small typo: "peaceful youR".... So true, Sandy. :) - rac1, Apr 25, 2015
También puede ser: "tu vida llegará a ser más pacífica", sin el artículo: "la", aunque pienso que pierde el énfasis de la expresión "the more". - crucesignatus, Apr 25, 2015
Wow, Thanks you Crucesignatus and Tiempo for all the suggestions. I am going to write them all here. - sanlee, Apr 25, 2015

De nada compañera Sanlee. Es que en español usamos en ocasiones los artículos para enfatizar una expresión. Aunque su uso es de determinante. :) - crucesignatus, Apr 25, 2015

La jerga es un conjunto de palabras vulgares en código que pueden ser usadas en la conversación de determinados grupos como jóvenes o estudiantes en semejanza al lenguaje técnico de las diversas profesiones.

La replana es, sin embargo, la jerga de los delincuentes.

Jargon is vulgar word groups in code that could be used in conversation by certain groups, such as young people or students, similar to the technical language used by professionals.

However, underworld slang is the jargon of criminals.

Jargon, in Spanish, IS vulgar words in code that could be used in conversation by certain groups such as young people or students like technical language is used by people in various professions. - DilKen, Apr 25, 2015
However, underworld slang is the jargon of criminals. (just deleted two of the definite articles) Good job, amigo. - DilKen, Apr 25, 2015
Jargon,...is vulgar words...groups, such as young...students similar to the technical language used by professionals. Jargon is the subject of "is vulgar". Your wording in the second part is understandable but not like English syntax. - Jubilado, Apr 25, 2015
Jubilado, I agree that instead of my "like" you could say "similar to" However, I would prefer "similar to the way that" technical language is used..." - DilKen, Apr 25, 2015
I think in this case it should read, "Jargon, in Spanish, is vulgar word groups"....... :) - rac1, Apr 25, 2015
Or..."Jargon is vulgar word groups"..... - rac1, Apr 25, 2015
Muchísimas gracias compañeros Ken y Jubilado. - crucesignatus, Apr 25, 2015
Sí, pienso que la expresión mejora mucho si le quito la palabra español en ambas oraciones. Gracias Rac! :) - crucesignatus, Apr 25, 2015
Instead of "words groups" write, "word groups" ... - rac1, Apr 25, 2015
Gracias Rac, ya he hecho aquella corrección. :) - crucesignatus, Apr 25, 2015

A menudo los adolescentes son muy groseros y parece que piensan que es gracioso. Afortunadamente la mayoria se hacen más civilizados cuando se hacen mayores.

Often teenagers are very rude and it seems they think it is funny. Fortunately most become more civilised when they grow up.

This is not for votes, just fun.

In the espanglés that is spoken where I live, a grocería is a grocery store. and the "grocero" is the guy that runs it. This is due to English "grocery" and "grocer"

The correct word of course is "abarrotería"

Un hombre joven estaba tratando de aprender lenguaje grosero aquí. Me preguntaba a dónde iba a usar esto. Hasta ahora no he necesitado a español vulgar, y lo mantendré así.

One young man was trying to learn crude language here. I was wondering where he was going to use that. I have not needed vulgar Spanish so far, and I will keep it that way.

Pueden burlarse de la esposa de Apu y sus ocho niños. Pero no hay ninguna razón para ser grosero al burlarse de ICEEs a su Kwik- E-Mart.

You can make fun of Apu's wife, Manjula, and their eight children. But there is no reason to be rude by making fun of ICEEs at his Kwik- E-Mart.

No conezco a ninguna persona grosera, pero, como no conezco a ningún banquero, ni a ningún político, ya entendemos por qué.

I don't know any crass people, but, as I don't personally know any bankers, or, indeed, any politicians, we understand why that is.

En las ciudades grandes, muchas personas parecen groseras, porque la vida mueve más rapido.

In large cities, many people seem rude, because life moves much faster.
