Algun día?

Algun día?

So today I was texting with someone from Spain and I asked her if she would like to Skype with me. She replied, "Algun día hablamos por Skype!" does "algun día" mean in the immediate future (like a few days from now), or more like a hypothetical (similar to the English "yeah we should talk sometime!"). I would like to know how to reply best, for example, I wouldn't want to suggest we talk this weekend if she meant that we might talk a ways down the road. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Carter

It would be cool if you filled out your profile. We have no idea what your native language is or what your language proficiency is. - Jack-OBrien, Apr 21, 2015

It just means 'one day', 'some day', 'some time in the future', it's actually a rather ambiguous term, doesn't tie you down to having to do it on a certain day.

Uno de estos días/ algún día:

It can be a polite way of saying ' no'. We'll talk some day.. I'll go out with you some time.. It indicates willingness but avoids commitment and is a tactic frequently used by girls of all nationalities.

Hello Carlos,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

Yes, like Jack says it means: one day or some (unspecified) day in the future.....we will talk in Skype (ie: she might talk with you!) She was talking/texting hypothetically

It sounds like she is being very casual about the idea / sitting on the fence/ being very non'committal... perhaps, (reading between the lines) because she is uncertain of your reasons for wanting to chat with her.in Spanish.

If you simply want to practise your Spanish with her, (no other reason) please make sure that she is aware of this .. because her lack of commitment to a particular time couldl be due to her feeling unsure of your motives.

Have you explained to her that you are learning Spanish and asked if she would mind you practising with her?

(Please understand that I am not judging you or your motives but simply looking at the situation from her perspective and pointing out that she may be concerned how any boyfriend she might have .. could interpret any other guy chatting privately with her in Spanish in Skype!)wink

I hope this helps smile
