La hora or Las horas?

Question

I have a question.  Hope you can lead me to who can answer.  Is it correct to answer the question of what time is it, in Spanish/Castilian, with the hour is four or fours? " Son LAS cuarto or Es LA cuarto"? Most use the plurality of the hour when I believe THE hour is one and not a multitude of that hour just because it's a higher # than 1. Respectfully. R.

I have answered this before in similar threads.

Son las cuatro, Which is short for saying, son las cuatro "horas"

For one o'clock, it's Es la una. Then add or subtract minutes as necessary

Es la una y diez. It's ten after one.

Es la una menos diez. It's ten minutes till one.
