How do you say "I trimmed the grass?"

How do you say "I trimmed the grass?"

I keep a daily Spanish notebook so that I can practice my writing everyday. However, today I ran into something a little odd. I'm trying to say "Yesterday, my son and I trimmed the grass and then we cut the lawn..."

I'm wondering if there's another word used for "trim" instead of using "cortar" since "trim the lawn" and "cut the grass" sound very similar but they are actually disting actions.

Any helps is much appreciated. Thanks.

Actually in Spanish we'd just say 'cortar el pasto/césped' maybe you could say 'primero lo rebajamos y después lo cortamos...' - Pablo064, Apr 20, 2015

To trim - recortar To mow - cortar (corte el césped)

To prune - podar

Maybe that's not the full story. Maybe they HAD to trim the edges of the grass first, by hand or with a strimmer ( due to some landscaping issues) and then later they cut the whole lawn with a lawn mower! LOL! But I am blowed if I am going to translate that into Spanish.!!

Or in simpler terms, I would say, Ayer mi hijo y yo podamos y le hicimos el cerquillo al patio. (Yesterday my son and I mowed and fringed the lawn)

That's how we say it in Puerto Rico.

"Recortar la grama" is also a good alternative to half of the sentence. - SalvadorRSPR, Apr 19, 2015

I agree with Margarita´s idea and trimming is another form cutting, but just the edges. I would say: Ayer mi hijo y yo cortamos las orillas del pasto / césped seguido por la parte de medio.

Thanks @rac1. In this case, would it be correct to write it as "ayer, mi hijo y yo cortamos el cesped y entonces cortamos el cesped"? It just looks weird.

But why would you want to say it that way? You either trimmed, cut or mowed the lawn. Right? - rac1, Apr 19, 2015
