Responding with "Sorry/Excuse me?" sarcastically

Responding with "Sorry/Excuse me?" sarcastically

Hello, is there a way to respond with "Sorry?" or "Excuse me?" sarcastically? Like after you get insulted or something. For example:

  • A: You're ugly.
  • B: Excuse me? Look who's talking.

Would it be...

  • A: Eres feo.
  • B: Perdón? Mira quién habla.

Or is it only to be used in sincere phrases when you genuinely mean sorry? If not, is there another way to phrase the sarcastic "Excuse me?" part? Thanks!

*Just to add: Assuming it's okay to use that, would I be right in saying "lo siento" or "disculpe" is more for genuine expressions? Or can they be used sarcastically too? ... "Lo siento? Mira quién habla" y "Disculpe? Mira quién habla"

Hello again, jamboo,

I believe that the following options could /might help! wink

I believe you could also say with a degree of sarcasm/irony:

¿Cree(s) que soy feo? = (Do) You think (that) I'm ugly?!

...¡Mira quien habla! = Look who's talking! wink

¿Ud (te) ha(s) mirado al espejo, recientemente?

= Have you looked at yourself in the mirror recently?

o...

¿Cree(s) que soy maleducado/grosero/descortés?

= (Do)You think that I am rude/discourteous?

¡Tiene gracia que tu digas eso! = That's rich coming from you! wink

¿Qué decías? = What did you say?!

I hope this helps! smile

I'm not sure if it's correct, but "Con Permiso" is yet another way to say excuse me. smile

When used sincerely you could say Con tu permiso, tengo que irme = Excuse me, I have to go! - FELIZ77, Apr 18, 2015
You are talking about using excuse me in normal daily use, but the questioner is asking about a completely different context:in which a person responds sarcastically to the first person's rudeness! - FELIZ77, Apr 18, 2015
I believe that the context given by the questioner would demand a different résponse, closer to the English: You were saying?! - FELIZ77, Apr 18, 2015
Unknown artist, good attempt just make sure that you always read the question very carefully so that you understand the context - FELIZ77, Apr 18, 2015
and by doing so ..you can be more sure that your answers will be accurate and helpful! ;) - FELIZ77, Apr 18, 2015
Important self-correction: Tengo que irme = I have to/ I must leave! ( not go) sorry, my mistake (typo) lol - FELIZ77, Apr 18, 2015
