There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

.

1. La región de Andalucía se conoce por sus caballos bellos.

The region of Andalusia is known for its beautiful horses.

2. ¿Has montado a caballo alguna vez?

Have you ever ridden a horse?

Me parece que en el caso del caballo de Troya la gente respetaba el dicho : a caballo regalado no se le mira los dientes, y así estaban las víctimas de la trama griega.

It seems to me that in the case of the Trojan horse people respected the saying: don't look a gift horse in the mouth, and so were the victims of the Greek plot.

I am impressed Feliz , not easy to do a jump on a horse that takes guts and know how. - ray76, Apr 16, 2015
Well, you tighten the reigns, dig your heals in to encourage the hores to speed up then lean forward as you approach the jump assuming that you are guiding the horse in a straight line towards the jump! lol - FELIZ77, Apr 16, 2015
The horse does the rest lol The horse leaps over the jump, front feet first unless you are unfortunate and your horse decides that you will take the jump by yourself ! lol - FELIZ77, Apr 16, 2015
correction above: horse ( typo) to speed up - FELIZ77, Apr 16, 2015

Raj , Monté à caballo etc...You need the reflexive pronoun with the venbs gustar and encantar but I don't think you need it with the verb montar I hope this helps :) - FELIZ77, Apr 16, 2015
Raj, my mistake.I had forgotten that there is also the verb montarSE as well as montar so you were correct...you can use either with respect to riding bicycles or horses! My sincere apologies !:) - FELIZ77, Apr 16, 2015

Como mi hija se comprometió con su novio a caballo, mi esposa lanzó la idea de que él entrará entre a la boda montado a caballo, pero, debido a que la boda no va a ocurrir afuera y él no es un jinete con mucha experiencia, yo lancé la idea que su idea podría resultar en un desastre.

Because my daughter got engaged to her fiancée on horseback, my wife floated the idea that he would enter into the wedding mounted on a horse, but, because the wedding is not going to occur outside and he is not a rider with much experience, I floated the idea that her idea could result in a disaster.

Me gustaría mucho aprender a montar a caballo, pero la verdad me da un poco de miedo.

I would love to learn to ride, but frankly speaking I´m a little bit afraid of (horseback riding) being thrown.

Luis, no need to fear riding horseback... fear being thrown (not riding horseback) ; ) - jrschenk, Apr 16, 2015
Jajajaja. Muy cierto, Jrschenk! - LuisCache, Apr 16, 2015
Luis, it isn't being thrown (from a horse) that's the problem .....it's the landing! The skill is the timing ..so you land somewhere soft, like on a haystack preferably not a cow pat (cow poo) lol ;) - FELIZ77, Apr 16, 2015

Recientemente, mis padres y yo hemos estado viendo un montón de capítulos de la series de televisión del tipo Western llamada "La ley del revólver" y ahora mi mamá (quien tiene 90 años) dice que quiere un caballo. No puedo imaginar cuan difícil sería montar un caballo para alguien **que utiliza* un andador con ruedas.

Muchísimos gracias, Tiempo smile

Lately, my parents and I have been watching a ton of episodes of the Western television series called "Gunsmoke" and now my mom (who is 90 years old) says that she wants a horse. I can't image how difficult it would be to ride a horse for someone using a rolling walker.
