There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

.

Guidelines:

.

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.
.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

Examples:

.

1. ¡Buena suerte en tu entrevista!

Good luck on your interview!

2. ¿De veras crees que romper un espejo es mala suerte?

Do you really think breaking a mirror is bad luck?

Tuvimos mucha suerte al poder visitar Machu Picchu cuando aún no cobraban sumas exorbitantes para los estudiantes, en verdad todo el viaje lo hicimos con un presupuesto record y no nos cobraron por visitar las ruinas porque éramos estudiantes peruanos. Era el año 2001 y estábamos en viaje de promoción.

We were very lucky to be able to visit Machu Picchu when it still was not charging exorbitant sums for students, really we did the whole trip with a record budget and we were not charged for visiting the ruins because we were Peruvian students. The year was 2001 and we were on our graduation trip.

Algunos la llaman la alegía "la suerte" y otros la llaman "una bendición," pero sin importar necesitamos responderla con la gratitud.

Some call happiness "luck" and others call it "a blessing," but no matter what we need to respond with gratitude.

¿Es buena fortuna cuando puedes ayudar , o mala suerte cuando no puedes?

Is it good fortune when you can help, or bad luck when you can not?

Las galletas de la suerte son algo muy tradicional en los restaurantes chinos.

Fortune cookies are something very traditional in Chinese restaurants.

Although the lack of "are" in English does make it sound like a Chinese speaking. No insult intended. I really love the way people (not native speakers anyway) use English. - Jubilado, Apr 12, 2015

I had the luck- the truth is that I don't know if it was good luck or bad luck- of finding this photo of mine this morning, which was taken in 1984 with the Tower Bridge of London in the background and which was taken while I was visiting my mother and my sister that lived in London way back then, shortly after I received a Bachelor's from the University and before I went to another University for more education, but at the least it reminded me that I had hair before the Navy took control of my head.

Se dice que hacemos nuestra propia suerte y creo que esto es verdad en parte. Estoy de acuerdo que trabajo duro, costumbres saludables y una actitud buena usualmente traen buenos resultados, pero algunas personas tienen mala suerte acerca de que no pueden hacer nada.

They say that we make our own luck, and I think that this is true in part. I agree that hard work, healthy habits and a good attitude usually bring good results, but some people just have bad luck about which they can't do anything.

No me gusta recibir esas cartas en cadena que prometen "Mala suerte" si no haces algo. Original : De hecho, yo ni siquiera los miro jámas. Correction : De hecho, yo ni siquiera las miro jamás.

Muchas gracias, Tiempo smile

I don't like to receive those chain letters that promise "Bad luck" if you don't do something. In fact, I never even look at them.

En nuestro país dicen que el deshollinador, el cerdito y el trébol traen buena suerte por eso la gente envía tarjetas como esta .

In our country it is said that chimney sweeps, a piglet and clover bring good luck, therefore people send postcards like that.
