There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
.

.

Guidelines:

.

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.
.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

1. A su mamá no le gusta que viva tan lejos.

Her mom doesn't like that she lives so far away.

2. El restaurante no queda muy lejos de aquí.

The restaurant isn't very far from here.

I'm right now getting confused about whether it should be "then" or "than". And I should know this because I'm fluent in English. Oh, well :( - Sassette, Apr 12, 2015
You're right, Missy, it should be "than".. :) - rac1, Apr 12, 2015
"The house is further than I thought" Great job jemamu, we all get these wrong . - ray76, Apr 12, 2015

Jim, I would say that you don't really need the personal pronoun 'yo' in your sentence because voy can only 'I' go - FELIZ77, Apr 11, 2015
Si no estuviera tan lejos, iría allí más frecuentamente/ más a menudo - FELIZ77, Apr 11, 2015
You need to use the conditional indicative: iría together with the imperfect subjunctive: estuviera. I hope this helps :) - FELIZ77, Apr 11, 2015
correction above: voy can only mean 'I' go - FELIZ77, Apr 11, 2015
You could also use con más frecuencia :) - FELIZ77, Apr 11, 2015
Thank you Feliz77, I was stuck on "word for word" translating in my original post. - jim5489, Apr 11, 2015
Small typo: "I'd"... :) - rac1, Apr 11, 2015

Dios nunca está lejos de nosotros. La Biblia dice que Dios es "un amigo más unido que un hermano." (Prov. 18:24 Reina-Valera Revisada )

God is never far from us. The Bible says that God is a "friend that sticketh closer than a brother." (Prov. 18.24 KJV) ( I liketh the sticketh part smile )

A little note for English learners, sticketh is bible English, it is archaic and would be sticks in normal English. :) - bosquederoble, Apr 11, 2015
Yes, he is. :) - rac1, Apr 11, 2015
There is no Spanish word that translates sticketh, is there? :) - jim5489, Apr 11, 2015
And "liketh" really doesn't agree with "I" . I'm just having fun. ♥ - Daniela2041, Apr 11, 2015
@Jim "pegar" is one word, "pegadura" is glue. - Daniela2041, Apr 11, 2015
sticketh...jeje. I love it when you talk in Bible; better than your attempts at speaking Scottish. - Sassette, Apr 12, 2015

Hay un dicho: Lejos de ojos , lejos de corazón, pero podemos discutir eso , porque hay gente que olvida su amor de repente y hay quienes guardan su amor a pesar de distancia.

There is a saying: far from eye, far from heart, but we can discuss that, because there are people who forget their love suddenly and there are those who keep their love despite the distance.

They were as far apart as the heavens from the earth.

Tan lejos estaban el uno del otro, como el cielo de la tierra.

"We're as far apart as heaven and earth" or "We are as far away from each other as heaven is from earth." Would sound more natural. :) - rac1, Apr 11, 2015
"They were as far apart (from each other) as the heavens from the earth." Para proporcionar otra opción- lo que está dentro de los paréntesis no es necesario. :) - bosquederoble, Apr 11, 2015

¡Lo sé por experiencia propia que puede ser muy dificil mantener una relación romántica con otra persona cuando los dos* de ustedes viven muy lejos de la persona que aman! ¡Tenia relación romántica con una jovencita Brasileira!

traducción alternativa*: o cuando ambas* personas viven/están viviendo lejos de la persona que aman.

I know from my own experience that it can be very difficult to keep a romantic relationship going (to maintain one) with another person when you are both living far from the person you love! I used to have a romantic relationship with a young Brazilian girl!

Corrijan mi español si necesario, por favor smile

nothing wrong with putting request for corrections with your posts but aren't we supposed to do that for each other anyway? This is a learning site, after all. - Sassette, Apr 12, 2015
I wouldn't use 'los dos de ustedes' your alternative correction is better 'cuando ambos viven muy' :) - Pablo064, Apr 12, 2015
Muchas gracias, a tiempo ...voy a hacer las correcciones más tarde :) - FELIZ77, Apr 12, 2015
Yes, tipo but my request for corrections is directed towards native speakers in particular, to show an openess to being corrected, which is why I have written the request in Spanish! lol :) - FELIZ77, Apr 12, 2015

Sueño con estar lejos de aquí, en una playa al lado del Mar Caribe, sentado bajo de una palmera con una bebida en la mano. ¡Espera un momento! Dentro de una semana, sí, estaré allí.

I am dreaming of being far from here, in a beach beside the Caribbean Sea, sitting beneath a palm tree with a drink in my hand. Wait a moment! Inside a week, that will be me.
