There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

enter image description here .

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.
.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

Mi media naranja sabe muchísimo sobre los minerales y las piedras preciosas. Creo que le gustaría si yo dejara de jugar con el español y aprendiera algo, digamos, más interesante.

My better half knows a lot about minerals and precious stones. I think he'd like it if I stopped toying with Spanish and learned something, shall we say, more interesting.

Si fuera más fuerte lanzaría una piedra a la ventana de Bosque para que él aprendería lo de no escribir las mismísimas frases que me gustarían escribir .

If I were stronger I would throw a stone at Bosque's window in order to teach him not to write the very sentences that I want to write.

Siempre me ha gustado el adagio que dice algo como "la gente que vive en casas de vidrio no debería lanzar piedras", porque, aunque por la mayor parte de mi casa está hecha de madera y cemento, tiene muchos vientos ventanas, y por eso normalmente no llevo piedras en mi bolsillos para evitar la tentación de tirarlas.

I have always liked the adage that says something like "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones", because, although for the most part my house if is made of wood and cement, it has a lot of windows, and so normally I do not carry stones in my pockets to avoid the temptation of tossing them.

La expresión "a tiro de piedra" significa lo suficientemente cerca de algo que podría tirar una piedra y golpearlo.

The saying "a stone's throw" means close enough to something that you could throw a rock at it and hit it.

Juan y Susana se quedaron de piedra cuando sus mejores amigos, Tom y Lucia, anunciaron una noche que se iban a divorciar, después de que Tom había admitido que habia tenido un lío con otra mujer que duró cinco años.

John and Susanna were flabbergasted (stunned) when their best friends Tom and Lucy announced one night that they were getting (going to be) divorced, after Tom had admitted that he had had an affair with another woman lasting five years!

The corner stone (my attempt)

42 Jesus said to them,

“Have you never read in the Scriptures:

“‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’"

42 Jesús les dijo,

¿"Nunca leísteis en las Escrituras:

La piedra que rechazaron los edificadores, se ha convertido en la piedra angular. El Señor ha hecho esto, Y es cosa maravillosa a nuestros ojos?"
