There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

enter image description here

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Instructions for post a picture

Examples:

1. Este avión tiene cuatro salidas de emergencia.

This plane has four emergency exits.

2. ¿A qué hora es la salida del tren hacia Nueva York?

What time is the departure of the New York-bound train?

Normalmente llego al trabajo antes del amanecer, y por eso no veo la belleza de la salida del sol, pero durante los fines de semana a veces la veo con una taza de café en mi terraza.

Normally I get to work before dawn, and so don’t see the beauty of the sunrise, but during the weekends at times I watch it with a cup of coffee on my deck.

ah twotd is salida jaja - Pablo064, Apr 1, 2015
Vaya, ¿antes del amanecer? ¿En el verano también? - Manity, Apr 1, 2015
I though I could get away with it, since I used it (amanecer) earlier in the sentence, based on the principle of not repeating the same word. ;) - bosquederoble, Apr 1, 2015

but 'dawn' isn't 'madrugada'? - Pablo064, Apr 1, 2015
I am not sure in English I know the difference between dawn and sunrise. Hmmm - bosquederoble, Apr 1, 2015
and I suppose it should be the same between sunset and dusk? - Pablo064, Apr 2, 2015
okay, i'll buy that. :) - bosquederoble, Apr 2, 2015
I think dawn is when it slowly starts getting lighter and lighter but before the sun actually rises over the horizon; and dusk is after sunset until it gets completely dark. But it might be just me. - Manity, Apr 2, 2015

La infraestructura de la universidad está correctamente señalizada para casos de sismo porque en nuestra región son muy comunes los temblores, así es más fácil encontrar la salida.

The buildings of the university are signed correctly for instances of earthquakes... because in our region shaking is very common, like this it is easier to find the exit.

Ikea es una empresa sueca, pero eso no importa , porque aunque soy sueca tampoco puedo encontrar la salida a este gris laberinto que está construido con tanta inteligencia para hacernos tirar la casa por la ventana y y compremos más de lo que hemos planeado, y que , justo cuando necesitemos un cafecito lleguemos a la cafetería donde, claro tenemos que tomar algo para ganar fuerza suficiente para llegar al punto de pago.

Ikea is a Swedish firm, but this doesn't matter. Even though I am Swedish this doesn't help me to find the exit from it's grey labyrinth , because it is so cleverly built that we end up spending enormous amounts by buying more than we planned to do, and , so that, just when we need a cup of coffee we arrive at the cafeteria of Ikea, where we obviously have to eat or drink something to gain sufficient strength to get to the pay points.

De vez en cuando sentimos que estamos en un laberinto sin salida, pero no es verdad, hay siempre una salida , sólo debemos hallarla.

Sometimes we feel that we are in a labyrinth without exit, but it is not true, there is always a way out, we must only find it.

Con una puerta giratoria la salida y la entrada es la misma.

With a revolving door the exit and the entrance is the same.

Pleaneamos una salida familiar a la playa, pero al final no se dió por el mal clima.

We planned a family trip to the beach but in the end we couldn't go due to the bad weather.

La Salida de los judíos de Egipto es el tema de la Pascua. (Pésaj en hebreo.)

The Jews' leaving Egypt is the theme of Passover. (Pesach in Hebrew.)

Va a tener una salida difícil hacerme que coma comer aquí.

Better way of writing it according to our wonderful corrector, tiempo:

Va a tener que ser una venta agresiva para hacerme comer

It's going to be a hard sell to get me to eat here.

@tiempo_de_es hard sell is one of the definitions listed in the SD dictionary. Still, I may have used it incorrectly. Would appreciate more comments on that issue. Thanks for correction too, tiempo :) - Sassette, Apr 1, 2015
@Jraider people are always accusing us photoshop junkies of manipulating photos whether it's true or not :) - Sassette, Apr 1, 2015
Thanks Tiempo, I waited to vote, because I was interested to see if the sentence worked, I had never heard it. - annierats, Apr 1, 2015
It doesn't make sense to me, I don't think it's a regionalism, I found 'hard sell' as 'venta agresiva' 'va a tener que ser una venta agresiva para hacerme comer...' yep that works :) - Pablo064, Apr 1, 2015
