There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes. .

enter image description here .

Please encourage everyone with a vote. Remember those who arrive late. smile

.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game. .

Instructions to post a picture

.

enter image description here .

Examples:

1. Hice una prueba para ser un extra en "Juego de tronos", pero sin éxito.

I auditioned to be an extra on "Game of Thrones," but without success.

2. Me parece más importante el éxito personal que el profesional.

Personal success is more important to me than professional success. .

Notes:

It looks a lot like "exit," but "éxito" is never, ever used to talk about the way out of a room or building. For that, use "la salida." .

TQM is an acronym for "Te quiero mucho." TKM can also be used.

Pienso que Falda-Escocesa seguirá tener teniendo mucho el éxito en SD a pesar de que cambió su la personalidad virtual de Gutsy Pitufo a otra cosa. Espero que viniere otra vez para visitarnos en Pueblo Pitufo. ¡TQM, Gutsy!

I think that Falda-Escocesa will continue to have much success on SD even though he changed his avatar from Gutsy Smurf to something else. I hope that he will come by Smurf Village again to visit us. I love you, Gutsy!

Un éxito es muy importante , pero tienes que soportar muchos fracasos hasta lograr un éxito.

Success is very important, but you have to endure many failures before success.

Uno de los caballos mas famosos de las islas británicas fue un castrado llamado Desert Orchid, un caballo muy exitoso en las carreras sobre vallas . Aunque hemos visto otros caballos quizás mejores, Desert Orchid sigue siendo el caballo más valiente que jamás he visto y aunque se murió hace unos años, a los 27 años, no lo olvidaré nunca.

One of the most famous racehorses of the British Isles was a gelding called Desert Orchid, a very successful horse in steeplechase races. Although we have seen other horses that may have been better , Desert Orchid remains the bravest horse I have ever seen and even though he died a few years ago, at the age of 27, I will never forget him.

Yes, it's strange how the memory stays with us, his colour helped, but he also had a lot of personality. - annierats, Mar 26, 2015
nice picture. I don't think there's a lot of steeplechase coverage here in the US. I think it's an Olympic event. - Sassette, Mar 26, 2015

Hola annie. He must have been a very special horse :-)! - Jraider, Mar 26, 2015
No Tipa, you're thinking of eventing. Racin is racing, very popular here, steeplechasing is the winter sport, for the older horses. - annierats, Mar 26, 2015

¿Sabías que "éxito" en español y "exit" (salida) en inglés vienen del latín exitus, que significa "salida"? En latín exitus también significa término, fin.

Did you know that 'éxito' in Spanish and 'exit' in English come from Latin exitus, meaning going out? In Latin, exitus also means end, term.

Aunque se dice que el plumaje ostentoso del pavo real macho no lo ayuda a sobrevivir en la naturaleza, sino que causa que sea más fácilmente atrapado por un depredador, y que solo existe para tener éxito en atraer las hembras, he leído una opinión que nota dice que exhibir de repente el la exhibición repentina del plumaje con todos los las imágenes de ojos puede asustar a un depredador.

Although it is said that the ostentatious plumage of the male peacock does not help it survive in the wild, but instead makes it such that it is more easily caught by a predator, and that it only exists in order to have success in attracting females, I have read an opinion that notes that suddenly exhibiting the plumage with all the images of eyes can frighten a predator.

learned "sino causa" Will try to store that in my small memory bank. I have 4 photos of mine displayed in my living room. One of them is of a peacock that looks very similar to this. - Sassette, Mar 26, 2015
Now that you point that out, I wonder if I should have said "sino que causa"- I would not learn this yet and wait and see if I get a correction. ;) - bosquederoble, Mar 26, 2015
El que lleva un plumage tan brillante tambíen tiene que ser listo y quizas atletico para escapar los predatores. Las gallinas son más listas que parece cuando prefieren los machos que lucen. - annierats, Mar 26, 2015
Es verdad que los símbolos de la masculinidad de una especie (como la cornamenta de un ciervo) dependen de la salud del animal y de su éxito con el entorno. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 26, 2015
It's interesting that the name for peacock in Spanish translates "royal turkey"! :-D - Jubilado, Mar 26, 2015
Apparently the term pavo originally related the peacock, but after contact with the New World, it got applied to turkey, which usurped the usage, and so real had to be added. In Mexico guajolote is used- derived from Nahuatl. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 26, 2015
Jeje! I shook my head when I saw the word "pavo" :-)! - Jraider, Mar 26, 2015
I should say guajolote is used for turkey (not peacock). :) - bosquederoble, Mar 26, 2015
Guajolote sounds onomatopoeic to me. Even without the hard G sound, gobble and guaolote. However I looked up turkey in Nahuatl and the closest word is huexolotl (hway-sho-lo-tl) for tom turkey. - Jubilado, Mar 26, 2015
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/guajolote From Classical Nahuatl huehxōlōtl. That would seem to be correct. - bosquederoble, Mar 26, 2015
Typo in my previous comment: guajolote (I forgot the J) - Jubilado, Mar 26, 2015
...sino que causa...en atraer hembras or en atraer a las hembras...mm I'm not sure about 'que nota' ..una opinión que dice que la exhibición repentina del plumaje...las imágenes... - Pablo064, Mar 27, 2015
Gracias, Tiempo. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 27, 2015

Para un escocés nativo, que primero es tan azúl como un pitufo, cuando se hace blanco ya ha tenido éxito, porque para él ser blanco es igual a bronceado...

For a native-born Scotsman, who starts out blue as a smurf, when he turns white he has already achieved success, because for him white is a tan...

Lo que el mundo llama éxito puede que no sea lo mejor para tí. Hay muchas clases de éxito. Algunas personas alcanzan mucho dinero y fama, pero son infelices. Quizás el mejor éxito sea tener una vida feliz con la familia y buenos amigos.

That which the world calls success might not be the best for you. There are many kinds of success. Some people achieve lots of money and fame but are miserable. Perhaps the best success is to have a happy life with the family and good friends.
