What has been your most embarrassing experience learning Spanish? xD

My most embarrassing experience occurred when I was trying to order some food at a restaurant in México. I used what I thought was the first person singular conjugation of the verb pedir (pedo) which actually means "I fart" xD

I won't go into detail. I'll just say that one should always take care not to confuse "conejos" and "cojones."

Estaba hablando con alguien de Centroamérica y me dijo que a él le gustaba mucho el comienzo de "Cien años de soledad" y la idea de "conocer el hielo". Le dije "Entonces ¿nunca has visto hielo?" y me respondió "Bueno, tenemos unas máquinas especiales que hacen hielo, son máquinas mágicas." Realmente me merecía esta respuesta.

I was talking to someone from Central America and he told me he really liked the beginning of the "One hundred years of solitude" and the idea of "discovering" what ice was. So I said, "You have never seen ice?" and he replied "Oh, we have these special machines that make ice, they're magic." I totally deserved this answer.

Mi momento peor ( hasta ahora) pasó hace tres años, cuando estaba de vacaciones cerca de Huelva. Aquilamos un apartemento muy cerca de la playa.Recibí unas discargas eléctricas bastante fuertes de la cocina y fui a la recepción del complejo para quejarme y pedir ayuda. Dije que había tenido un choque en la cocina de la cochesadora o algo así. La recipcionista no me entendió. Mi marido, quién no habla español, mimó tener una discarga eléctrica, y a él le entendieron al instante.

My worst moment, up to now, happened three years ago, when I was on holiday near Huelva. We were renting an apartment close to the beach. I got some bad electric shocks from the cooker and went to the reception of the holiday complex to complain and ask for help. I said that I had had a car crash in the kitchen with a combine harvester ( or something like that) and the receptionist didn't understand a word. My husband, who speaks no Spanish, mimed getting an electric shock. They understood him immediately.

I went to a supermarket on the Costa del Sol in December with a shopping list that included 'rubber gloves'. I asked the shop assistant and became flustered. I believe I may have said something like 'I am looking for eraser gauntlets for the laundering of plates', but she knew what I meant anyway
