Georgeir (George) is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. Please correct your entries according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes. .

enter image description here .

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game. .

"El patito feo" es un cuento clásico de búsqueda de la propia identidad en lugar del esfuerzo por se asimilado.

"The ugly duckling" is a classic tale of searching for one's own identity instead of trying to assimilate.

When my mother would hear me saying something bad about someone, she would say, "God don't like ugly!"

Cuando mi madre oiría me decir algo mal de alguien, diría "¡Dios no Le gusta feo!"

Si mi madre me oyera decir algo mal de alguien, diría: "¡A Dios no le gusta eso que haces, eso que has hecho es algo muy feo!", hehe, although it is a long sentence in Spanish. :) - crucesignatus, Mar 19, 2015

Wolfie agrees, although he thinks cute terrirs nasty. - annierats, Mar 19, 2015
It is right; only that /el piel/ is not masculine; but feminine /la piel/. :) - crucesignatus, Mar 19, 2015
never heard of that. great graphic, Gutsy! - Sassette, Mar 19, 2015
It's by Scots artist, Peter Howson. I love grotesque art & its austere beauty. There's beauty even in ugliness, & hope even in pathos... :-) - Faldaesque, Mar 19, 2015

I think they're adorable!! - Findy, Mar 19, 2015
¿Por qué piensas que los perros crestados chinos son tan feos?, is better, the adjectives are used after the noun, only in the literature are used before the noun, by example /¡Hermosa mujer!/. In ordinary languaje is /mujer hermosa/ :) - crucesignatus, Mar 19, 2015
Thanks. I looked all over for a translation and couldn't find one. I'm never sure what to do when there's more than one adjective. - AnnRon, Mar 20, 2015
You can put them together / perro crestado chino /, join them with a script / perro afro-peruano /, join them in a word, / perro afroperuano /... - crucesignatus, Mar 20, 2015
...join them with a conjunction / perro crestado y chino / or put them before and after the noun / crestado perro chino /. Good night!. :) - crucesignatus, Mar 20, 2015

Por aquí tenemos un día feo y lluvioso y no sé que hacer. Hace frío en la casa y aún más frío fuera. Hay que qudearse en la verandah, pensando sobre la vida pero el pobre Wolfie está atado a un poste en el veranda porque está desmasiado mojado para entrar en casa. Resulta difícil meditar sobre la vida con un perro enorme y mojado al lado.

Over here we have a bad day, it' raining and I can't think what to do. It's cold in the house and even colder outside. The only thing to do is to stay on the verandah and reflect on life, but poor Wolfie is tied up to a post on the verandah because he's to wet to be indoors. An enormous and wet dog at my side makes it hard to meditate on life.

Well, I pray for better weather and some much needed relaxation for you all. - rac1, Mar 19, 2015
It is right!, also you can to use /terraza/ for verandah, /a casa/ for en casa, /a mi lado/ for al mi lado, /en casa/ for en la casa. And only you had one error: atato, it should have been: atado. :) - crucesignatus, Mar 19, 2015

Se dice que todo depende del cristal con el que se mire; aunque para muchos de nosotros, esta cría parecerá fea, es muy posible que para su madre, sea una cosa bella.

It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder; even though for many of us, this baby animal will appear ugly, it is very likely that for its mother, it is a thing of beauty.

Unfortunately its looks do not help its survival: The aye-aye is often viewed as a harbinger of evil and killed on sight. Some say the appearance of an aye-aye in a village predicts the death of a villager, and the only way to prevent this is to kill it - bosquederoble, Mar 19, 2015
