I missed you so much

Question

How would you say 'I missed you so much' in Spanish using the expression 'echar de menos'? And would it be in the imperfect, since it's expressing feeling or emotion?

present: Te echo mucho/tanto de menos.

imperfect: Te echaba mucho/tanto de menos.

perfect: Te eché mucho/tanto de menos.

pluscuamperfecto: Te había echado mucho/tanto de menos.

I think "tanto" is a bit more emotional than "mucho" haha, my opinion.

You can also say:

Te echaba muchísimo de menos = I missed you soooooo much

Te eché muchísimo de menos = I missed you sooooo much

As you may well know this construction comes from the verb: echarse. This verb is used primarily in Spain where Castellano is spoken.

Te extrañaba muchísimo = I missed you so much

Te extrané muchísimo = I missed you so much

This construction comes from the verb extrañarse. This verb is used in Latin America.

This verb can be used in either the imperfect or the preterite / simple past but there would be a subtle difference in meaning.

In the preterite this would simply mean: I missed you soooo much (Completed action referring to a particular time)

In the imperfect it would mean I was missing you or I used to miss you ( Incomplete action that started at some undefined time in the past and is still contimuing)
