"I take a shower to wake up" ... Me ducho para despertarme ??

I know that "despertarse" is literally "to wake up", as in someone's no longer asleep, but I'm wondering if the sentence "I take a shower to wake up" is more of an English colloquialism. How do you say in Spanish that you do something in order to become more alert when you're groggy from sleep?

I searched previous posts, but couldn't find anything on this.

I do not see why you cannot say that. Here are some sentences easily found on search on google:

I am not a native speaker, however.

Thanks, bosquederoble. Funny how I turn to Google for just about everything except translations, LOL. Any native speakers care to weigh in? - SiempreAprendo, Mar 10, 2015

Well, I can't recall another one. I'm a native speaker and despertar/deapertarse/despertarme/desperté are the most used. But we have a more to say that you are sleeping:

Él está tomando una siesta

Lucy se echó un coyotito

Pegó pestaña hace 2 horas

Se echó una jeta

Está jetón

Está en los brazos de Morfeo

Maybe another latin american could teach us another ones smile
