Cordobesa, Dani, Julian, Luis, tiempo_de_es, Jimmy, Gex-Thunderstrom, leumas11, txustaboy, LuisCache, FELIZ77, Jubilado, billygoat, annierats, Neox, Kiwi, Josuele, diagonx and anyone else that has helped. Hopefully, I haven't left anyone out. Thank you all. Your corrections are invaluable.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Somehow I can't see you burning money. - rac1, Mar 9, 2015
Sometimes the way money flys out of my wallet, it seems like I might as well burn it :-)!!!! - Jraider, Mar 9, 2015
with two entries about money, I'm staring to get the feeling you don't like money. I need some...can you send some my way? - Sassette, Mar 9, 2015
Maybe you have "money to burn" Hmmmmmmmm? - Daniela2041, Mar 9, 2015
just to add something. I don't like money and I wish I agreed with this entry 100% but money exists, like it or not, and it sets the stage to make more things possible. Certainly wouldn't burn it. - Sassette, Mar 10, 2015

I live in a third floor apartment and I try doing this too. jejeje - rac1, Mar 9, 2015
I would translate "I go shopping for my parents" like this: "Hago las compras para mis padres" because "go shopping for" is a modal verb and not all of them can be translated textually :) - - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015
Según los libros de texto que usamos en los E.U.A. "ir de compras" es una buena expresión, Y yo estoy de acuerdo. Lo que has puesto no está mal tampoco. Are we Spaniards all that different from you guys? - Daniela2041, Mar 9, 2015
Ir de compras is a very common expression in Spain. - annierats, Mar 9, 2015
Gracias, and even if we use the other expression it would be: "Cuando les hago las compras a mis padres---". Big sigh!! I guess Spaniards "are" different. :) - Daniela2041, Mar 9, 2015
I have to go up three floors too, Rac. - sanlee, Mar 9, 2015
Muchas gracias Georgeir, Dani y Annie - sanlee, Mar 9, 2015
Whoops, I said that in my sentence, Rac. Thanks everyone! - sanlee, Mar 9, 2015
Sorry for the confusion I caused here, I suggested another sentence because of the "para" in the "ir de comprar para" part. You can say "Ir de comprar para cocinar" among other examples - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015
You haven't caused confusion, amigo. Thanks for the corrections. :) - rac1, Mar 9, 2015
I will put your sentence in also, Thanks, Georgeir. - sanlee, Mar 9, 2015

Very rich people in the US anyway donate a smaller percentage of their money for causes than those with less. While religious people can be less accepting of people of diversity :(( , regular Church goers seem to give the most. - Sassette, Mar 9, 2015

La alegría se puede encontrar dondequiera que vayas pero no hay ningún atajo hacia ella. Por eso creo que es un poco triste que algunas personas necesiten comprar cosas, o sea, recurrir a la terapia de compras, para levantar el ánimo; esto me parece un sustituto inadecuado.

Joy can be found wherever you go but there is no shortcut to it. Because of this I think it's a bit sad that some people need to buy things, i.e. resort to retail therapy, to lift their spirits; it seems an inadequate substitute.

Cuando uno se casa y se muda en una casa nueva, se comenzan por comprarles todo el mundo, y con el paso del tiempo se da cuenta de que lo unico que realmente necesitaban todo ese tiempo era el uno al otro; pero creo que eso pasa porque para entonces ya se han comprado toda clase de cosas relevantes.

When you marry and move into a new house, you buy this and you buy that, and its not until many months later that you realize, all you really need is each other. But I think it's mainly because by then you have already bought everything else you could need.

"You buy this and you buy that" translates into "compran esto y aquello". And you are mixing the subjects of your sentences(because "you" can be plural and singular in English), try to conjugate all the verbs for "ustedes" (se casan, se mudan, comienzan) - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015

You did it well on the first sentence, but the second one should be like this: "Así tendría más tiempo para aprender español" - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015
It's ok to say "así yo tendría" or "entonces yo tendría" - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015
In this conditional you always have to use the subjunctive of the verb next to the "if" statement, then you have to use the indicative verb for the second part of the conditional: "Si yo tuviera más dinero, tendría más alegrías" - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015
These are like mini lessons for me. Thank you George and Luis too...:) - rac1, Mar 9, 2015
