I am pleased to announce that we now have an official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please join me in welcoming georgeir. Welcome and thank you, georgeir! Please edit your entries according to his suggestions.

Also, I would like to thank all those that have so graciously donated their time in helping us with the Spanish corrections. Cordobesa, Dani, Julian, Luis, tiempo_de_es, Jimmy, Gex-Thunderstrom, leumas11, txustaboy, LuisCache, FELIZ77, Jubilado, billygoat, annierats, Neox, Kiwi, Josuele, diagonx and anyone else that has helped. Hopefully, I haven't left anyone out. Thank you all. Your corrections are invaluable.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. Dejé tu correo sobre la mesa.

I left your mail on top of the table.

2. La legendaria Mesa Redonda del rey Arturo aparece por primera vez en "Roman de Brut" del poeta Wace.

The legendary Round Table of King Arthur appears for the first time in "Roman de Brut" by the poet Wace.

Me encanta las cataratas del SD. (I don't think encantan is used because waterfalls in this sentence is referring to one waterfall. Correct me if I'm wrong.) - Sassette, Mar 8, 2015

Hi! the right way to say "around a table" is "alrededor de" , and "It is" translates into "Es" + (masculine/femenine) adjective & complements: "...es grato y promueve conversaciĂłn" - georgeir, Mar 8, 2015

It's a shame that even has to be said. You should be welcomed everywhere. ♥ - rac1, Mar 8, 2015
Come on, folks. Let's be nice to each other with the voting. Everyone deserves at least 5 to get that good answer badge. Not happy with my results yesterday but even more alarming is how many didn't even get 5. - Sassette, Mar 8, 2015
It's frustrating that there's voting on this site. This is a learning site where the focus should be on sharing and learning. This isn't a popularity contest or an election. I don't see where voting fits in. I will submit a feedback to SD on this - Sassette, Mar 8, 2015
...though I doubt they'll get rid of it. If, by chance, anyone feels the same please provide feedback to SD on this. - Sassette, Mar 8, 2015
You have 4 now amiga. xx - ian-hill, Mar 8, 2015
Hi TipaGal, you should use gerund in your translation too: "pidiendo" y "comiendo". "Nosotros" is a plural noun so you should say "Nosotros somos". PS I couldn't agree more with @rac1 :/ - georgeir, Mar 8, 2015
I'll vote for you: ) - Ranman, Mar 8, 2015
I hionestly don't even notice whether I get votes or not, it's not important. I agree it's not part of the learning process, but if some people enjoy it that's ok with me. - jennysk, Mar 8, 2015
:) - annierats, Mar 9, 2015
Estoy contenta, o, es a mi gusto, creo. I don't think comodo works, but I may be wrong. - annierats, Mar 9, 2015
@georgeir and @annierats Thanks for corrections georgeir. Thanks for suggestion, annie. I'm guessing it can work but it's risky business going against you. If anyone sees this can I get confirmation on the use of "cĂłmodo"? - Sassette, Mar 9, 2015

Hi! "The table is" translates into "La mesa es" C: - georgeir, Mar 8, 2015
Why 'ser' in this case, Georgeir, when it's only messy after dinner & not by nature? 'Estar' seems to make more sense... - Faldaesque, Mar 8, 2015
I really hope someone will clarify the verb that goes with lĂo. What I've found so far: "ser un lĂo" seems to be a set phrase, I can't find even a single "estar un lĂo". However, I found a few "estar siendo un lĂo" and... - Manity, Mar 9, 2015
... I think I "grok" its meaning but I can't explain it. Any help with that would be much appreciated! :) - Manity, Mar 9, 2015
Maybe 'ser' refers more to 'lĂo', being 'messy' by nature, & exclamatory / emphatic, a little like the French,'quel bordel'... - Faldaesque, Mar 9, 2015
Está hecho un lío, o está enliada, but maybe that refers only to when youre in a tricky situation, rther than making a mess. - annierats, Mar 9, 2015
Well, you can say "después de comer la mesa queda hecha un lío"(this one is hardest among my first suggestion) or "la mesa está hecha un lío" or "la mesa es un lío". - georgeir, Mar 9, 2015
Thanks, George, I really like your suggestions. This clears things up a bit! :) - Manity, Mar 10, 2015

He oido el refran "mi casa es su casa" muchas veces pero hombres pobres como yo quienes no tienen su propia casa puedan usar otras cosas en este refrán en vez de casa .. como .. "mi mesa es tu mesa" .. jeje..

I have heard the saying "mi casa es tu casa" many times in spanish .. but for poor people like me who don't have their own house,, they can use some other petty objects in the saying .. for example "mi mesa es tu mesa" haha ..

Después de nuestro incidente del escape en la tubería, mi esposa ha decidido que yo debería limpiar el garaje entero, y casi he quitado la mesa de billar (es una pequeña) y la mesa de hockey de aire de todos mis proyectos inacabados, y quizás cuando ella regrese a casa esta noche podamos jugar al billar, pero ahora hay un montón de cosas con las que ella debe tratar en la encimera (mesada, barra...) de la cocina.

After our incident with the leak in the pipe, my wife has decided that I should clean the whole garage, and I have almost cleared all my unfinished projects off the pool table (it is a little one) and the air hockey table, and perhaps when she returns home tonight we can play pool, but now there is a pile of things that she has to deal with on the countertop in the kitchen.
