There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Siempre tomas duchas muy largas y no dejas agua caliente.

You always take showers that are too long and never leave hot water.

Bangkok is one of the hottest cities in the world, with an average annual temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tiempo, thanks for the L. Because it runs together soundwise, I forget to add in that precious and necessary L. The rest of you, dew bring me another cuppa, porfa. - katydew, Mar 4, 2015
At first I asked for té con leche but I would get a tea bag in a cup of hot milk. I wanted tea steeped in water with milk to add so this worked better. - katydew, Mar 4, 2015
I also ask for hot coffe and hot milk on the side, during breakfast. But I pfefer the tea natural, without sugar, lemon or millk. - LuisCache, Mar 4, 2015

I don't understand women who think very muscular men are hot. It is obvious that the more time they devote to their body, the less time remains for what's in their head and how can that be attractive?

awesome observation. I'm glad I don't fit in that category. Fit is fine but all this bodybuilding stuff is ridiculous. - Sassette, Mar 4, 2015
Oh yes, I totally agree with you. - rac1, Mar 4, 2015
Yes, but on the other hand, a flabby type is not that attractive, however brainy... - annierats, Mar 4, 2015

Tiempo, in Englsish it is ' hot' and in Spanis' picante' you're right, if ever so prudish, of course. - annierats, Mar 4, 2015
Same here about salsa with heat being "picante" not caliente - jcapo33, Mar 4, 2015

In Colombia when I wanted to take a hot shower, the house had an electric water heater. It was located directly above the shower nozzle which came out of it and there was a wire from the water heater (a small cylinder) that connected to a plug in the wall high in the shower. It seemed a little dangerous to me but I never heard of any electrocution accidents. (But now I've just heard about it here.)

They are nicknamed, "widow-makers". I had a friend who had a big shock from one as he didn't know not to touch it while showering. - katydew, Mar 4, 2015
need an accent over the "o" in "calefón." No need to feel discouraged about that. It will take some time for you to reach my level of error-free Spanish %-P - Sassette, Mar 4, 2015
I'm glad I never touched them! In the mountains is was this or "bañar al indio" - a bucket of hot water and a bowl. Preferí la ducha. - Jubilado, Mar 4, 2015
Yikes!!!!! - Jraider, Mar 4, 2015
Here we say "bañarse a jicarazos" (with a bucket of hot water and a bowl"). A "jícara" is a wooden bowl. - LuisCache, Mar 4, 2015

I like the soup and chicken or beef broth hot as hell, no matter if it burns my tongue, with a hot (chilly) chilli pepper.

When I heat up something frozen in the microwave, there are always parts that are hotter than others, and often I burn the roof of my mouth (the hard palate) when I discover a very hot part- which typically happens just before I go to the dentist- so that he can continue believing that I am an idiot.

lol. I wonder if "Al calentar" can replace "cuando caliento" since it wouldn't be necessay to mention the 'I". I'm not saying it's better, just a different approach. - Sassette, Mar 4, 2015
Yes, thanks, I always forget I can do that. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 4, 2015
'techo de la boca' - Pablo064, Mar 4, 2015
Gracias, Tiempo, me pregunto dónde se usa "cielo": http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/translation.asp?spen=cielo+de+la+boca. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 4, 2015
That's always a problem with the microwave. - rac1, Mar 4, 2015
wow I don't know but would 'sky of the mouth" sound weird in English? I mean it is just the mouth I think that with 'roof' is enough jajaj - Pablo064, Mar 4, 2015

Porque, choques are car-crashes. I once, in a holiday place insisted I had had a car crash in the kitchen. I meant an electric shock.. Nobody understood me. - annierats, Mar 4, 2015

I have a collection of about 30 hot sauces, I am especially fond of habanero peppers... love that slow burn. - jrschenk, Mar 4, 2015
I don't know much about cooking but 'hot' means 'picante here' and 'chili peppers' is just 'chile'...acostumbrados 'a' cocinar con pimientos 'picantes' pero los 'chiles' son mucho mas 'picantes' por eso la.... :) - Pablo064, Mar 4, 2015
I love habanero peppers, they are simply delicious although very hot. - LuisCache, Mar 4, 2015

*enciende is the subtler choice

Is it the shark or the man in the mascot from the Super Bowl halftime show that is turning me on? I will have to talk to my psychologist about that.

I guess the shark is winning, which makes sense. After all, it was the shark-- not the guy in the suit-- that achieved fame and went viral. - Sassette, Mar 4, 2015
Maybe that's the guy in the shark :-)?? - Jraider, Mar 4, 2015
@ Jraider this guy was definitely one of the two sharks. He, himself, got a little bit of attention because of his good looks and the popularity of the sharks (particularly the left shark) - Sassette, Mar 4, 2015
del tiburón del espectáculo..Bowl 'lo que me enciende' is subtler but if not...lo que me 'pone' caliente... - Pablo064, Mar 4, 2015
@ tiempo_de_es I see what you're really getting at...you prefer "lo que me enciende" because you're prudish. You gotta loosen up and have some fun, Tiempo! :-) - Sassette, Mar 4, 2015
mm no but I didn't see the word 'horny' in your sentences so I thought maybe you wanted to be prudish jaja - Pablo064, Mar 4, 2015
