Nickname for good friend at work

I work with a man that I need a nickname for. We are both married with kids, but we like each other a lot, and probably would have dated in another life. I am looking for a nickname that has the essence of a friend that is like a brother or a soul mate - not romantic, but loving. Any suggestions?

I'm still here! It's hard to find time to check in during the day while I'm at work. I am interested in learning Spanish, and appreciate that you all responded! I think I'm gonna give up on the nickname for now. It will come when I don't have to search for it smile Thanks again...hopefully I will be able to utilize this sight to be better able to communicate with the people I work with in their language.

When I was about 16, some relatives who lived in Mexico came to visit. The had a little girl who was barely talking yet. She started calling me "Mibo" and no one, not even her parents, could figure out where it came from or what it means (if anything). Probably just a made-up word that came into her head. I give you permission to use it if you'd like. wink

I suggest mijo. Not really an apodo (nick name) but affectionate.

I would however, wait for advice from a native speaker. What's his heritage? Mexican, Honduran, etc.? It might make a difference.
