There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
Guidelines:
Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Hace poco acabé de leer una novela llamada ' Paulina' de Ana María Matute. Es una historia muy sencilla y se trata de una chica que está recuperandose de la poliomielitis y por eso es enviada para vivir con sus abuelos en las montañas en una granja muy aislada. Allí conoce a un chico de la misma edad que( quien) es ciego y muy pobre.Los dos se hacen amigos y la chica improvisa un típo de braille y le enseña al chico a leer. Aunque tienen muchos problemas, los dos niños son muy listos y durante un invierno largo y nevado sus vidas cambian.
A little while ago I finished reading a novel called ' Paulina', by Ana María Matute. It's a straightforward tale about alittle girl who is recovering from polio and, because of this she is sent to live with her grandparents on a very isolated farm in the mountains. There she meets a boy of herown age, who is blind and very poor. These two become friends and the girl invents a sort of Braille and teaches the boy to read. Even though they have many problems both children are very bright and during the long and snowy winter their lives change.

La gallina ciega
La gallina ciega es un juego infantil en el que se le vendan los ojos a uno de los participantes usualmente con una bufanda o un pañuelo, y luego se le dan varias vueltas hasta marearlo, mientras los demás jugadores corren a esconderse.
Entonces el jugador llamado "gallina ciega" intenta atrapar a los demás jugadores guiándose solo por sus voces o ruidos. Cuando atrapa a otro jugador éste se convierte en la "gallina ciega".

Blind man's buff
Blind man's buff is a children's game, in which one of the participants is blindfolded, usually with a scarf or handkerchief. Then he is (given some rolls) spun around in order to make him dizzy, while the rest of the players hide themselves.
Then the blind man tries to catch someone else guiding himself only by their voices or (noises) sounds. When somene else is caught, he/she becomes the blind man.
