verb ( to touch; to play (an instrument) )

We are still looking for a Spanish corrector that would like to correct on a full time basis. If you are interested, please send me a pm.

Also, I would like to thank all those that have so graciously donated their time in helping us with the Spanish corrections. Cordobesa, Dani, Julian, Luis, tiempo_de_es, Jimmy, Gex-Thunderstrom, leumas11, txustaboy, LuisCache, FELIZ77, Jubilado, billygoat, annierats, Neox, Kiwi, Josuele, diagonx and anyone else that has helped. Hopefully, I haven't left anyone out.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

We would ask you please not to touch any of the products.

Zach Condon, of the band Beirut, can play the flugelhorn, the ukelele, the trumpet, and the accordion, among other instruments.

When some people play an instrument, the result is anything but heavenly...

I would like it if the mayor or whoever is responsible could hire the street musicians to play in the streets and parks. In this way we could enjoy their music more often, while they would receive something closer to what they deserve.

If you don't really have to live through the consequences of "freedom and democracy", it's very easy to think you're "civilised".

@diagonx - do you have an alternative to freedom and democracy? - ian-hill, Feb 25, 2015
That's why we have the freedom to state our opinion! - Jraider, Feb 25, 2015
I am with you on this one. - osas-baby, Feb 25, 2015
@annie It's just Africa jumped into that "freedom and democracy" bandwagon over 1 century after us in Latin America, they'll just have to wait 120 more years to be where we are... - diagonx, Feb 25, 2015
@ian Actually since "freedom and democracy" as conceived in the West are disingenuous sophistry, we'd need a thoughtful and collective reconsideration of them in order to proceed. - diagonx, Feb 25, 2015
@Jraider Exactly, but not free enough to go to the Capitol and say policy has to change right away so the poor improve their lives and that the victims of violence be given reparation right away with a guarantee of no repeating of the same actions. - diagonx, Feb 25, 2015
@osas Thank you. - diagonx, Feb 25, 2015
It's not because of freedom and democracy, it's because of man's obsession for power and greed. - rac1, Feb 25, 2015

If only I would win the lottery! But as I have never had the slightest luck betting on games of chance and have never won, I don't buy tickets, and because of this I think I would need an enormous amount of luck in order to find a ticket , which has been thrown away, on the ground, and then for this very ticket to be the winning one.

Mucho niños aprenden a tocar instrumentos musicales an las iglesias.

@Manity... apart from teaching kids to play musical instruments, the church also teaches adults vocational skills. On valentines day there was a party for anyone who was lonely. All these activities are meant to keep people in church, away from the streets. Its our way of giving back to the society.♥. - osas-baby, Feb 25, 2015

As a child, my elementary school tried to teach me to play the guitar and the flute, and, from what I remember it was a failure. In the past I used to avoid things for which I did not immediately show talent (but I have made an exception in order to learn Spanish), but the Navy made a try at teaching me to march in step with others and it became obvious that I have no natural sense of rhythm, and so I suspect that my decision to abandon learning music was a good one.

I am afraid that if this cat plays the piano, the music will be anyway caterwauling.

There are people who don’t touch the food, but instead they use knife, fork, and spoon for eating. Have you heard of this before?
