Hello , I was wondering if this sentence in English is correct? I'd also like you to explain to me when to use it in these kinds(or types.... es más formal) of sentences.
Yesterday, I dialed mom (in order) to ask her where she was.
Generalmente, nos decimos "to call someone."(llamarle a alguien).
I would be inclined to say ... I called mum yesterday to ask where she was.
I can't think of a gramatically rule off the top of my head to cover this but if you say ' I called mum asking where she was .....' It sounds a little awkward as the present participle (asking) would (to me at least) suggest a more continuous action.
Perhaps a better example would be something like this. ... Yesterday I rang all the local hotels asking if my Mum had been staying there.
