Someone is putting toilet paper with feces in the bathroom garbage can. I want to leave a sign on the inside bathroom door that will stop this practice. What would you suggest the sign say?

Hi 4glenn. You will be going against a lifetime of learning to do the opposite in most all Latin American countries. They will probably wonder why you want your toilets to get blocked!

This sign gives you some of the basic vocabulary that is often used. However, of course, this one is to tell a person
N O T to put paper in the toilet/commode. You are up against a cultural norm. You may need to also put a sign up so that paper towels don't go into the toilet, since this other sign is common in other Latin American countries in the bathrooms.

So maybe you could add "No" to this sign below between de & depositar:

I read this on a sign and I think this will work: por favor de poner el papel sanitario en el inodoro (you can also use the Spanish verbs arrojar or tirar in place of poner).

Tienes mi voto, Katy. Es verdad, los carteles siempre nos piden que hagamos lo contrario, jeje. :) - Cordobesa, Feb 16, 2015
Excellent, Katy. The actual toilet is often ' el váter' in Spain, but the signs are the same. - annierats, Feb 16, 2015
Hola Katy - you saved me the work of explaining my experiences in South America. Gracias. - ian-hill, Feb 16, 2015
Well, I feel so smart after having Bibi's thumbs up. And if Annie & Ian agree, well, even better. Thanks for the votes of confidence. - katydew, Feb 16, 2015

Favor de poner el papel higiénico en el inodoro, no en la basura. (I think "inodoro" is used in the Americas, I am assuming that is where you are located,)

We also use excusado for toilet. And here all the signs say to put the paper in the trash not in the toilet. It's all about perspective. - gringojrf, Feb 15, 2015

Yes, in Spain too, the drains block if you put paper in the loo. - annierats, Feb 16, 2015

I'm not a great one to put up links, as in my own experience nobody bothers to look at links. However, this one takes you to a most useful travel-blog where you will gain a useful vocabulary on this subject. Katy has answered the question most perfectly.

como limpiarte el culo

Hello

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

I think you could say: Por favor, pongan el papel higiénico en el inodero, no en la basura. Gracias.

I hope this helps smile
