¡Hola amigos!

I would like to know what contexts are appropriate for the use of the words "fluido" and "fluidez" (fluent).

¡Muchas gracias!

Please note that I am going by Google Translate's two results, if there are any other ways to say "fluent" in Spanish, please let me know. - JohnBrown-1992, Feb 14, 2015
Hey John, welcome to the forum. :) Would you do me a favor and fill out your profile, please? Knowing your level of English and Spanish helps us to help you. :) Thanks! - Suzanne_Romijnders, Feb 14, 2015

¡Hola John!

SpanishDict's dictionary is much better than Google Translate for translations between English and Spanish, if only because it gives you really decent example sentences! :D

If you just type in 'fluent' or 'fluently', it'll tell you:

USO La palabra "fluent" no existe en español, por lo que la expresión "con fluidez/con soltura" se usa en su lugar como adverbio para describir la fluidez con la que se habla un idioma.

(If you need help understanding what it says here, let me know wink )

I'm pretty sure this is the one you were looking for, in the context of language, "fluido"(adj.) is not used. Instead, we paste: "CON(prep.) fluidez/soltura(noun)"-(adv.) behind it. ^^

The word 'fluido' does exist, though: as a description of a movement, such as in dancing or running liquid. smile

here's the linky

"Fluido(a)" can be used about language as well, it´s an adjective and "fluidez" is a noun - that´s the only difference. It´s just a personal choice of usage - 005faa61, Feb 14, 2015
Ah, I see. I thought it was something like that, but also that I'd stick with what SpanishDict's dictionary said... Maybe we should update that page of SpanishDict's dictionary to make it a bit clearer. ^^ Either way, thanks a lot! :D - Suzanne_Romijnders, Feb 16, 2015
