This really needs some explanation.

First of all, Indirect objects always preceed the direct object.

Second if you have a situation where it would "le lo, or les lo" the first word "le/les" gets changed to "se". therefore.

? Él se lo dio.

"Which of the following sentences is correctly formed in Spanish?"

" Lo me da // Le las compro. // Se lo escriben." The first two are wrong. They should be:

Me lo da. // Se las compro.

Even in affirmative and negative commands and present participles the indirect goes first.

Ex. Command. Dámelo (object pronouns are attached) // negative command: No me lo dés

With present participle. Maite está preparándomela. (Maite is preparing it for me) There is an alternative. Watch this.

Maite me la está preparando.

Isn't Spanish fun, hmmmmm?

Well here's my shot at this ...

http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/iodopro.htm

So there's basically a subject, direct object, and indirect object in each sentence.

El camarero me trae el menú. (The waiter(subject) gives me (indirect object) the menu (direct object).

http://img.docstoccdn.com/thumb/orig/119912060.png

Ordering is weird in spanish so indirect object comes before the verb instead of after.

Me(english) = me (spanish),

Exp. Le dijo la verdad = I (subject) tell him (i.o.) the truth (d.o.)

Indirect objects answers to whom/for and can't exist without direct object. I tell him sounds pretty weird. Similarly d.o can't exist without a subject. Tell him the truth sounds weird as well.

Now back to El camarero me trae el menú. After identifying the subject, i.o, d.o you can replace them with pronouns like he/she/it/they in english. In this case you're changing the d.o. El camarero - me trae. The waiter gives it(d.o. pronoun for it = lo/la) to me. El camarero lo me trae. Also you put the direct object pronoun before the indirect object. Might wanna look at this http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/271190/how-to-say-it-is-for-you-in-spanish-direct-object-pronoun This was probably not worth typing ... Edit: Prob not worth editing Edit2: welp by bill i mean menu and by give i mean bring ...wouldn't mind if someone fix this mess.

Sorry, David, this is sort of a mess. I can't even understand it. It started my eyeballs spinning. :) In my answer I didn't discuss the whole enchilada, just enough basics to answer the question. - Daniela2041, Feb 14, 2015
On my second reading (after my eyeballs stopped spinning) I found what you said is correct. It's just the way you put it that made it confusing. I took up your challenge to fix the mess. OK? - Daniela2041, Feb 14, 2015
You made this seem a lot less complicated, I still have a few things crossed in my head but this was very helpful - reubenwunder, Feb 15, 2015
