I need to translate the following sentences to spanish while using the subjunctive IF IT APPLIES. Thanks in advance:

"He hopes for the truth"

"I don't believe that they can come"

"The teacher doubts that the student will pass"

"It's probable that the cat at the mouse"

"My mother wishes I could come home"

"Tell him to come down"

Hello Yess,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

I offer my corrections smile I have used the term subjunctive in my examples to refer solely to the present subjunctive since no examples of sentence with the imperfect (past) subjunctive have been given.

"He hopes for the truth"

1.(Él) Espera (he hopes) la verdad *Subjunctive not needed (Only one subject: espera.. he hopes !) (Espero = I hope)

However, If the sentence said/were to say: He hopes that she will tell him the truth:

= Espera que (ella) le diga la verdad. You would need the subjunctive here.

2."I don't believe that they can come"

No creo que puedan venir (Subjunctive needed with construction: No creo que...)

3."The teacher doubts that the student will pass" (verb: aprobar = to pass)

La profesora duda que el estudiante apruebe (Subjunctive needed because the speaker expresses doubt that something will happen at some time in the future)

4."It's probable (likely) that the cat will eat the mouse"

Es probable que el gato **coma* el ratón (I think that the subjunctive is needed here following: Es probable construction...).

5."My mother wishes I could come home"

Mi madre quiere que pueda volver a casa.(Subjunctive needed: two different subjects)

6."Tell him to come down" Díle que baje (Subjunctive needed imperative mood also used!

I hope this helps smile

Corrijan mi español, por favor smile

My attempts:

  1. El espero que la verdad

  2. No creo que ellos puedan venir.

  3. I dont know how to say to pass, but here's my attempt: La profesora duda que ___

  4. Es probable que el gato coma la raton.

  5. Mi madre espera que yo pueda venir a casa

  6. Dile bajar.

Are these correct?
