dispuesto ( dees-pwehs'-toh )

adjective ( willing; ready )

We are still looking for a Spanish corrector that would like to correct on a full time basis. If you are interested, please send me a pm.

Also, I would like to thank all those that have so graciously donated their time in helping us with the Spanish corrections. Cordobesa, Dani, Julian, Luis, tiempo_de_es, Jimmy, Gex-Thunderstrom, leumas11, txustaboy, LuisCache, FELIZ77, Jubilado, billygoat, annierats, Neox and anyone else that has helped. Hopefully, I haven't left anyone out.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. ¿Estarías dispuesta a ayudarme a mudar este fin de semana?

Would you be willing to help me move this weekend?

2. Absolutamente todo está dispuesto para la reunión de esta tarde.

Absolutely everything is ready for this afternoon's meeting.

Me gusta la gente que está dispuesta ayudarse mutuamente después de una catástrofe, esos malos momentos sacan lo mejor de cada uno.

I like the people who are prepared to help each other after a catastrophe, these bad times bring out the best in everyone.

Alejandro era un niño astuto que estaba dispuesto a hacer el trabajo, pero que preferiría tomar la manera más fácil de hacerlo.

Alejandro was a clever boy who was willing to do the work, but who would prefer to take the easier way to do it.

Como el tiempo está muy frío no estaba dispuesta a ayudar a mi marido en el jardín y por eso estoy fingiendo que tengo que cocinar.

As the weather is so cold I didn't feel like helping my husband in the garden and instead I'm pretending that I have to do some cooking.

Una de mis hijas y su novio me dijeron que están dispuestos a aprender español hace una semana- hasta ahora sólo hemos hablado acerca de cosas muy básicas- pero si siguen con esto y mejoran lo suficiente, quizás les pida que se unan a este sitio. Pero si quiero pensar en hacerlo, tendré que empezar a tener cuidado con lo que cuelgue aquí.

One of my daughters and her boyfriend told me that they are inclined to learn Spanish a week ago- so far we have only discussed very basic things- but if they stick with it and improve enough, maybe I will ask them to join this site. But if I want to think about doing so, I will have to start being careful about what I post here.

colgar did you mean? collar is a necklace and yes it works as well - Pablo064, Feb 8, 2015
Yes, colgar, I was on an iPad and it must have autocorrected. Annoying when that happens. Someone should invent a bilingual Auto-correct feature. - bosquederoble, Feb 8, 2015
jaja that wouldn't be a bad idea - Pablo064, Feb 8, 2015
O.K. Colgar, postear plus I believe I have seen publicar used as well to mean "post." - Sassette, Feb 9, 2015
