cabeza ( kah-beh'-sah )

noun ( head )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. El jugador recibió un golpe en la cabeza y tuvo que abandonar el partido.

The player took a blow to the head and had to leave the game.

2. Tuvieron que cortar las cabezas de los tornillos para quitar las placas de mi carro.

They had to cut the heads off of the screws to get the plates off of my car.

rac1, thank you for this game, it's a fun way to practice a language! =)

Nuestra profesora de biología dijo, “¡Es sabido que una cucaracha puede vivir por unos días sin su cabeza, pero hay hombres quienes incluso no sospechan que pasan toda la vida sin sus cabezas!”

Our biology teacher said, “It’s known that a cockroach can live for a few days without its head, but some people don’t even suspect that they spend their entire lifes without their heads!”

Como siempre, las correcciónes son bienvenidas =)

El ajo chilote o elefante tiene una cabeza mucho más grande que la del ajo común, un sabor que es más suave, puede mantenerse en el suelo sin pudrirse, y es está más emparentado con los puerros que con el ajo común.

Elephant garlic has a head much bigger than that of common garlic, a flavor that is milder, can be kept in the ground without rotting, and is more closely related to leeks than to common garlic.

Who’s been putting those ideas into your head?

Se les metió en la cabeza ir al pueblo andando.

En países lluviosos como Costa Rica necesita tener cuidado con las "cabezas de agua" cuando visite los ríos.

In countries with a lot of rain like Costa Rica you need to be careful with "flash flooding" when visiting the rivers.

Mismo río, mismo lugar.

Same river, same place.

In Costa Rica, the usted form is more common, the tú form is for things more personal. Thank you. - 00551866, Feb 3, 2015
I thought you had mixed 'tù necesitas' with 'él necesita' and if you want to use 'cuando' then say 'cuando visite los ríos' but 'cuando al visitar' is wrong...con 'las' cabezas de agua :) - Pablo064, Feb 3, 2015

Pura vida, y tiempo gracias de nuevo. - 00551866, Feb 3, 2015
In Costa Rica many rivers look like creeks until it rains. They can go from ankle deep and two steps wide to 2 meters deep and impassable in minutes. - 00551866, Feb 3, 2015
The creeks "quebrados" don't change so drasticaly. - 00551866, Feb 3, 2015

Se dice, que a veces ser amable se confunde con ser cabeza dura. ....Yo no podía creerlo, hasta que leí unos ejemplos sobre este tema. Sin embargo, me gustaría añadir que la gente no debería justificar la terquedad con la cortesía.

It is said that sometimes being polite is confused for being stubborn. .... I could not believe it until I read some examples of this subject. However, I would like to add that people should not justify stubbornness by courtesy.

Se me ha pasado por la cabeza que algunas de los aportes en este página web podrían venir de los estudiantes que necesitan respuestas rápidas mientras toman una prueba.

It has crossed my mind that some of the posts on this website might come from students who need quick answers while taking a test.

Estuve muy preocupado, bueno solo un poco preocupado en realidad, que uno de los tiburones mordería (le) mordiera la cabeza de Katy Perry durante su actuación del medio tiempo del Súper Bowl.

I was very concerned, well just a little concerned actually, that one of the sharks would bite the head off of Katy Perry during her Super Bowl halftime performance.
