Some English expressions in Spanish

Question

For reasons that some of you may be able to discern, I want to post this rather than checking. I would like to know various ways a native speaker would say the following expressions: (Gracias antemano)

having put one's foot in one's mouth

Don't leap before you look

and finally

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool that to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

I agree with Leumas11 on #1 and #3. For #2 I would say: Fíjate antes de echarte / aventarte.

1.- Having put one's foot in one's mouth -----> Haber metido la pata. ----> Mi mamá me dijo que no le contara nada a mi papá, pero en cuanto lo vi, metí la pata y se lo conté todo.

The second one uhmmm I have heard "look before you leap" but I assume it's something very similar

2.- Don't leap before you look ------> Fíjate lo que haces / Mira bien lo que haces.

I also looked it up online and I found "Antes que te cases, mira lo que haces" but I had never heard this idiom so far in my entire life. Anyway, the last one seems to be a quote by Lincoln...

3.- It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. -------> Es mejor quedarse callado y ser considerado tonto que abrir la boca y confirmar las sospechas.
