La Palabra Del Dia: "esperar"

La Palabra Del Dia: "esperar"

esperar ( eh-speh-rahr' )

verb ( to wait, to wait for; to hope )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. El niño se quedó esperando a sus padres en la lluvia por dos horas después de la escuela.

The boy was left waiting for his parents in the rain for two hours after school.

2. Esperamos poder terminar el proceso de adopción de nuestra hija el mes que viene.

We hope to be able to finish the process of adopting our daughter next month.

.

Have A Wonderful Monday.

An attempt at poetry, giggles are welcome smile

Espérame, espérame, mujer,

que llevo tanto tiempo esperando

y no te vayas nunca por favor,

espérame así, soñando.

**

Wait for me, girl, wait for me,

I've been waiting for so long,

And please don't ever go away,

Just wait for me like this, dreaming.

I like both the picture and the poem. Sometimes it's best if you can't see the face so you leave it to your own imagination. - Findy, Jan 26, 2015

Con tan magna inspiración espero que siquiera sirvan limonada fría cuando uno llegue allá cansado de la carrera.

With such great inspiration I expect they at least serve cold lemonade once one gets there tired from the chase.

El 11 de marzo esperamos coger el ferry desde Portsmouth en Inglaterra a Santander en el norte de España ,y espero que el mar se quede tranquilo y sin oleaje. Wolfie , el perro, está de acuerdo conmigo, no queremos marearnos.

On the 11th of March we're expecting to catch the ferry from Portsmouth in England to Santander in Northern Spain . I hope the sea will be calm and without waves. Wolfie, our dog, agrees with me, we don't want to become sea-sick.

What kind of work do you do? - rac1, Jan 26, 2015
I have been an office administrator, contract specialist in subsea engineering, and worked in a rehabilitation care home for people with mental health issues. Right now I am a full-time carer for my mother-in-law (so I don't get out much). - Findy, Jan 26, 2015
"Espero un día obtener un trabajo donde pueda utilizar tanto el español como el inglés." I think. Oh, this tricky devil, the subjunctive. To use "ambos" you need to say something like "utilizar ambos lenguajes, el español y el inglés" - Manity, Jan 26, 2015
From office admin to subsea engineering to care, wow, quite a diverse experience :) - Manity, Jan 26, 2015
Thanks, Manity! I've been working since I was 15 so plenty of time to switch gears. (I'm 58 now - just had a birthday this past weekend). - Findy, Jan 26, 2015
Ok, I've corrected it. How does it look now? :) - Findy, Jan 26, 2015
Happy birthday Findy :-)! - Jraider, Jan 26, 2015
Aw, thanks, JR! - Findy, Jan 26, 2015
día.. if you want to you can omit the word 'both' in Spanish, it is an English rule, therefore you just can say 'donde pueda utilizar español e ingles' :) - Pablo064, Jan 26, 2015
I think the subjunctive is not required because there is not a change of subject ie I hope and I can. Is this right? - jennysk, Jan 27, 2015
