Four Spanish sayings

This is the last post on my website. I hope you like it!

English and Spanish speakers share many things and one of those things is their love for sayings and expressions. As everybody knows, a literal translation of idioms is possible only in a few cases. In most of them, we find a different way to express the same idea. Here you can find 4 of the most famous sayings in English and Spanish. We hope you enjoy them.

  1. Out of sight, out of mind = Ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente

Examples:

• After listening to the awful things that he told about her, I thought to myself, thanks God she hasn´t come, out of sight, out of mind.

• Después de oir las horribles cosas que dijo de ella, pensé para mí, gracias a Dios ella no ha venido, ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente.

  1. Practice makes perfect = La práctica hace al maestro

Examples:

• When the child was about to give up, his father told him: Keep trying, practice makes perfect and I’m sure you can do it.

• Cuando el niño estaba a punto de rendirse, su padre le dijo: Sigue probando, la práctica hace al maestro y estoy seguro de que puedes.

  1. Easy come, easy go = Lo que fácil llega, fácil se va

Examples:

• Yes, I won the lottery but I lost all the money in a few months. Easy come, easy go.

• Sí, gané la lotería pero perdí todo el dinero en unos pocos meses. Lo que fácil llega, fácil se va.

  1. The early bird catches the worm = A quien madruga, Dios lo ayuda

Examples:

• I want to arrive soon, you know, the early bird catches the worm.

• Quiero llegar pronto, ya sabes, a quien madruga, Dios lo ayuda.
