trabajar ( trah-bah-hahr' )

verb ( to work )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Mañana no tenemos que trabajar. Es un día de fiesta.

We don't have to work tomorrow. It's a holiday.

2. Un equipo de más de tres mil obreros trabajaron por un año y cuarenta y cinco días para completar el edificio Empire State.

A team of more than three thousand workers worked for one year and forty-five days to complete the Empire State Building.

If someone shares something about themselves and it's impressive it get's my vote. I'm assuming that's you and you're a fighter pilot so you got my vote - Sassette, Jan 24, 2015
Actually, I was speaking on behalf of the pilot, who does look a little like me,even if she is Asian. - Daniela2041, Jan 24, 2015
So, TipoGuy, if you want to "unvote" me It's OK, I don't want to get votes under false pretenses. - Daniela2041, Jan 24, 2015

Lo que más me gusta lo más acerca de los viernes es que no tengo que trabajar los sábados y los domingos, pero lo que me gusta aún más acerca de hoy es que mañana vuelo a Maui- y tendré que caminar sólo una distancia corta para llegar al océano- nos quedamos en un edificio cerca de la esquina superior izquierda de la caja blanca en la foto.

What I like most about Fridays is that I do not have to work on Saturdays and Sundays, but what I like even more about today is that tomorrow I fly to Maui- and will only have to walk a short distance to get to the ocean- we are staying in a building near the upper left corner of the white box in the photo.

¿De qué trabaja Jay Cutler? Él es el mariscal de campo para los Osos de Chicago. Los Bears le pagó a Cutler el salarío anual las mayor en el NFL esta temporada a pese pesar de que Cutler está es un pésimo mariscal de campo pésimo. Como un hincha de los Bears, estoy muy frustrado.

What does Jay Cutler do for a living? He is quarterback for the Chicago Bears. The Bears paid Cutler the highest base salary in the NFL this season despite being a lousy quarterback. As a fan of the Bears, I am very frustrated.

Do the " fullbacks" get paid more than the " quarter " ones ? And what about the "half ones" ? This is all gibberish to me sport. ;) ;) - ray76, Jan 24, 2015
Thanks LuisCache for corrections. Good question, rac1. Cutler has been QB for many years, not deserving of such a lucrative contract that he signed before this season. He's been at best mediocre at times; this season, awful. - Sassette, Jan 24, 2015
