feliz ( feh-lees' )

adjective ( happy; fortunate )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Leí un artículo que dice que Noruega es el país más feliz del mundo.

I read an article that says that Norway is the happiest country in the world.

2. Por feliz coincidencia, regreso de vacaciones en Ecuador justo antes de que mi empresa viaje a Costa Rica.

By a fortunate coincidence, I return from vacation in Ecuador just before my company travels to Costa Rica.

Arraigar a la felicidad es algo como atrapar a un mosquito, cuando la buscas no existe la felicidad, pero en algun momento inesperado llega la felicidad exactamente como el mosquito. Muchas veces en este momento llegue el mosquito también , para asegurar que hay una mosca en la sopa.

To make happiness stay put down is a bit like catching a mosquito, when you're looking for happiness there is none to be found, but in some unexpected moment it arrives, just like the mosquito. At this very moment the mosquito might arrive too, to make sure that there is a fly in the ointment.

What is arraigar, Annie ?? - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 22, 2015
I think it is to making something take root. Flies in the ointment are common in England. Small things that cause disruption. - annierats, Jan 22, 2015
Cheers, Manity, I altered it, although I felt tempted to leave one of each spelling, just to ensure 50 % was correct. - annierats, Jan 22, 2015

Aunque las novelas que ganan premios de literatura con frecuencia no terminan felizmente, lo mismo no puedo puede decirse sobre las novelas de la autora favorita de mi esposa, las que (según lo que yo sé) siempre tienen un final feliz. Descubrí hace diez días que esta autora vive en el mismo pueblo que mi sobrina (mientras la visitaba por su baby shower), y ahora mi esposa quiere visitarla otra vez, pero después de que nazca el bebé, y explorar el pueblo.

Although the novels that win literature prizes often do not end happily, the same cannot be said about the novels of my wife's favorite author, which (according to what I know) always have a happy ending. I discovered ten days ago that this author lives in the same town as my niece (while we were visiting her for a baby shower), and now my wife wants to visit her again, but after the baby is born, and explore the town.

Thanks mate , I originally had"el último tiempo," change it to vez but forgot to follow through - ray76, Jan 22, 2015
@Vorterix , I notice on your profile you say " soy hispanoparlante " that must be pure Argentinean , is it because of the big influence of Italian , and therefore from "Parlare " ? - ray76, Jan 22, 2015
@ vorterix, I stayed in Dénia Alicante Spain last year , and in the local dialect thew were using 'Parlare' instead of 'Hablar'. - ray76, Jan 22, 2015

Me haría feliz (o quizás una palabra más mejor usar está aliviado) si los anuncios para Cialis, un droga se usa en el tratamiento de la disfunción eréctil (impotencia) que parar mostrando en la televisión con tanta frecuencia porque todas las veces que verlos estoy recordar mi la virginidad.

It would make me happy (or perhaps a better word to use is relieved) if advertisements for Cialis, a drug used for the treatment of erectil disfunction (impotence) stopped running on television so frequently because whenever I see them it reminds me of my virginity.

Ser una persona feliz me parece más cerca la personalidad que las circunstancias. Sin embargo, todo el mundo va a estar infeliz cuando un evento triste o trágico sucede.

Being a happy person seems to me more about the personality than the circumstances. However, everybody is going to be unhappy when a sad or tragic event occurs.
