What does hace and hoy mean?

Welcome to the forum Grace.
Can you fill in your language level on the profile? I assume that you are new to learning Spanish and probably fluent in English. The language level is a helpful guide when we answer questions.
So far as your questions are concerned you can find the answers in a dictionary or using the translator on the site. Hoy is a noun and hace is the third person singular of the verb hacer. Were the words part of a phrase you were using? I ask that as one of the uses of 'hace' is in descriptions of weather.
Having checked out the tools on the site post again if you are confused.
Your "hace and hoy" are two words found in what is called a weather expression. I'll insert another word between them so they will make sense.
"Hace calor hoy". Word for word means. "It makes hot today."
Hace is "it makes" calor is "hot/heat" and hoy means today.
English speakers say: "It's hot today."
