Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns - Question

Hi,

In the writing task of Learn Spanish 2.3, it asks you to change and shorten sentences using direct and indirect object pronouns. I thought that José les tira las serpentinas a ellos changes to become José les las tira, but the answer says José se las tira. Is this because of the rule that if the direct and indirect object pronouns both begin with the letter L, you must change the indirect object pronoun to begin with a letter S?

Thanks

Hola,

Gracias
