We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Mi novio pasa horas cada domingo viendo partidos de fútbol americano.

My boyfriend spends hours watching football games every Sunday.

2. Disculpe, ¿me puede decir qué hora es?

La traducción no sale bien en inglés, pero cuando decimos "it´s about time" con el sentido de estar frustado, esperando mucho tiempo (of being frustrated, waiting a long time) we say: ¡Ya era hora!

When the word of the day is posted each day, in my country it is the time to sleep, so I can never be the first person to respond. Usually there are already more than ten replies before I wake up.

Hoy fuimos de excursión en crucero, mi marido y yo. Pasamos una hora y media en el estuario del río Exe, mirando las aves a bordo de un bote pequeño, con el motor apagado , flotando en silencio, llevados por la marea. Aunque hacía mucho frío fue una gran experiencia de la naturaleza en invierno.

Today my husband and I went on an excursion, a cruise. We spent one and a half hours in the estuary of the river Exe, watching the birds from on board a small boat, we drifted down the with the tide, in silence, with the engine switched off. Even though it was very cold we had a great experience of nature in wintertime.
