The scorched earth policy

I've always loved learning History worldwide. I remember studying about wars between Russia and other countries like Germany, and of course Russia used a very good strategy, by taking advantage of its climatic conditions. For example, in the second world war Germany had a very powerful army, and when Germans decided to invade Russia, they were sure they would defeat it, but perhaps they didn't keep in mind one of the best weapons of Russia: its Geography, and overall its climate. In fact, Russia used a very effective technique called "scorched earth policy", a military strategy which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area. This policy along with Russia's climate played a very important role to keep Germany from invading Russia.

"when Germany decided to invade" I would use " defeat her" " one of the best weapons Russia has is its Geography and climate" That is nitpicking but it sounds less clunky. - ray76, Jan 17, 2015
