cuerpo ( kwehr'-poh )

noun ( body; corpse )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. A uno cuando se pone viejo le duele el cuerpo por ninguna razón.

When you get old your body hurts for no reason.

2. El cuerpo lo encontró un tipo mientras caminaba a su perro en el bosque.

The corpse was found by a guy while he was walking his dog in the woods.

Creo que nuestro cuerpo es sólo una cáscara material que aloja nuestro espíritu.

I believe that our body is only a material shell that houses our spirit.

La mayoría de los animales que existieron durante el periodo Ediacárico tuvieron cuerpos blandos, y sus restos han sido muy difícil de investigar- al contrario durante el periodo Cámbrico muchos de los animales desarrollaron partes duras, las cuales se fosilizaron mejor y por eso dan la impresión de que un explosión de vida ocurrió en aquel entonces.

The majority of the animals that existed during the Edicarian period had soft bodies, and their remains have been very difficult to study- on the contrary during the Cambrian period many of the animals developed hard parts, which fossilized better and therefore give the impression that an explosion of life occurred then.

Solamente podemos estudiar el cuerpo humano científicamente para saber los datos de nuestra existencia en este mundo. Tenemos cuerpos como otros mamíferos pero hay una gran diferencia entre nosotros y ellos. Dicen que las diferencias vienen del cerebro humano. Puede ser así porque la ciencia lidia con cosas que se pueden medir y no con cosas como el espíritu. Si hay fuerzas espirituales que afectan nuestros cuerpos quizás eso es un asunto de la creencia.

We can only study the human body scientifically to know the facts about our existence in this world. We have bodies like other mammals but there is a big difference between us and them. They say the the differences come from the human brain. That may be because science deals with things that can be measured and not with things like spirit or soul. If there are spiritual forces that affect our bodies perhaps that is a matter of belief.

I think I agree with you ... but where does our spirit go when we are anesthetized or unconscious under the influence of alcohol .. - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015
I was anesthetized once so the doctors could fix my leg fracture (surgery) when I had met with a bike accident .. and when I woke up from the anesthesia it was as if I was completely non existent during the the of anesthesia ,, no dreams, no consciousness - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015
whatsoever, only pure oblivion as if i just didn't exist during that time ... and felt more like a cybe org whose batteries died out and then recharged ,, - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015
so though I would love to believe that we are a soul inside our bodies but my own experiences make me sceptical - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015
I am only speaking about scientific data. Opinions, philosophical viewpoints, non physical propositions, and even anecdotal information like your story, J_S, are not empirical science. - Jubilado, Jan 12, 2015
I am just discussing a but beyond the scope and purview of your post because this is one of the biggest paradox I face in my life .. I am spiritual by nature but looking at the world around I feel most of the times that every thing is purely mechanical . - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015
a bit ** (typo) - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015
I understand your viewpoint. I, too, continue to wrestle with spirituality and human scientific knowledge being sometimes at odds. For myself, being a Christian in a secular world is not always easy. - Jubilado, Jan 12, 2015
In my country there is often conflict between the Bible and science (a conflict I do not deem necessary) and I tend to say that I go to science for "information" and the Bible for "inspiration." - Jubilado, Jan 12, 2015
I am not a christian but I am secular by nature and respect all religions but way is more of logical reasoning .. something I can't logically reason with seems more of a superstition to me (notwithstanding anything to do with any particular religion) .. - Joydeep_Singh, Jan 12, 2015

A muchas chicas les faltan un sentido de bienestar porque quieren tanto estar muy delgadas y por eso sienten vergüenza de sus propios cuerpos.

Lots of girls lack a sense of well-being because they so very much want to be very slim and because of this they are ashamed of their own bodies.
