Pesa or Peso?
In the dictionary the noun "pesa" is shown to mean "weight". When I used "Cuanto pesa" to ask how much you weigh, the lady told me "peso". When I looked in the dictionary at "peso" it also means weight. So one noun is masculine and one is feminine. Why? Thanks

Existen dos clases de pesos.
El peso de dinero $ y el peso de pesar.
Ejemplo: ¿Cuanto es el precio de este caramelo? 2 $ Pesos.
Dame los 10 pesos y yo te doy 3 pesos.
El peso de pesar:
¿Cuanto pesas? Peso 80 kilogramos.
¿Cuanto pesa esa pesa?
Esa pesa pesa 10 kilos.
El peso de esa pesa es de 10 kilogramos.
pesa = weighing scale
pesar = to weigh
peso = weight, but also the conjugated form of "I weight"
In this case you are using the verb "pesar" conjugated in two different persons: first person, and third person: Yo peso.... Usted pesa....
¿Cuánto pesa usted?
Yo peso 80 kilos.
Because I do weight lifting as part of my training, I know what the expression "levantar pesas" means. So the "pesa" is part of my training equipment.
If someone weighs themselves and steps off the scale you can ask:
¿Cuanto pesó?
Not the noun How much do you weigh? but the verb How much did you weigh?
This is not the persons weight it is how much weight they measured including their clothes and whatever they are carrying.
