grito ( gree'-toh )

noun ( cry, shout, scream, yell )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. La mañana de la Navidad todo lo que se oía en la casa eran gritos de alegría mientras los niños abrieron sus regalos.

Christmas morning all that could be heard in the house were shouts of joy as the children opened their presents.

2. Al ver la culebra, di un grito.

Upon seeing the snake, I gave a shout.

Ojalá que si gritara en voz muy alta ''¡ Felices fiestas!'', mis amigos en SD me pudieran escuchar.

I wish that , if I were to shout '' Merry Christmas!'' very loudly, my friends in SD would be able to hear me.

Why would I cry or scream on Christmas? It's one of the happiest days of the year!

¿Por qué gritaría o gritaría durante la Navidad? ¡Es uno de los días más felices del año!

Esta pintura es la expresión perfecta del grito. No sabemos que eso es el grito de asustado o grito de desesperación.

This painting is the perfect expression of the cry. We don't know that that's a frightened scream or a cry of despair.

Como nuestros hijos son adultos, no ha habido gritos diciéndome "ven aquí para que podamos abrir los regalos"- en vez de esto una hija todavía está envolviendo regalos, nuestro hijo todavía no ha llegado- y mi esposa está preparando el desayuno. Cuando los hijos eran más jóvenes nunca solíamos desayunar hasta que se desenvolvieron por lo menos algunos de los regalos.

Because our children are adults, there have been no shouts telling me "come here so that we can open the presents"- instead of this one daughter is still wrapping presents, and our son still has not arrived, and my wife is making breakfast. When the children were younger, we never used to have breakfast until at least some of the presents were opened.

In Sweden we celebrate on Xmas Eve, Julafton, and open the presents in the evening, when Jultomten calls in person. He is very frightening. - annierats, Dec 25, 2014
Merry Christmas, we had our prime rib last night, but one daughter wasn't here until 8, and our son had to leave at 830, so no presents got opened. - bosquederoble, Dec 25, 2014

Aquí nos decir ," es tu grito ", cuando es hora de que paguen por las bebidas.

Here we say ,' it is your shout' when it is time to pay for the drinks.

enter image description hereShout Australian saying, meaning "shout" drinks. To buy the round of drinks. You can shout a mate anything you like, as long as you have the money!. Works on a reciprocal system, unless your mates are tightarses
