Would it be incorrect to tell someone happy birthday by saying:

Feliz cumpleaños pastelito can be used, but only if exist a relation, friendship/love. Doesn't matter if you say that to a male or female, is always pastelito. Some words are always used ¿as a he? - EleRo, May 16, 2016
Example of that are the following: - EleRo, May 16, 2016
La bandera (the flag) El bandera doesn´t have sense. - EleRo, May 16, 2016
El zoológico (the zoo) - EleRo, May 16, 2016

If you would run "pastelito" through our translator, you'll find out it means a type of pastry. So would you say to someone: " Happy birthday, little pie."?

OK, whatever. Maybe one of the other native speakers might recognize this as a colloquialism in their country.

I tried.

Maybe something like the French , " ma petite chou fleur " ? It always worked for me , albeit one hundred years ago. - ray76, Dec 24, 2014
My leetle cabbaáge? Ray you can call me your little cabbage any time! I've been called everything else around here. :) - Daniela2041, Dec 24, 2014
Including "Minnie Mouse" - Daniela2041, Dec 24, 2014
Hi Danilela , it is "Cauliflower" and colloquially is quite a term of endearment in certain quarters . - ray76, Dec 24, 2014
Wow, I'm really forgetting my French--I forgot the difference between cabbage and cauliflower in English as well. In - Daniela2041, Dec 24, 2014
In Spanish, it's "repollo" y "coliflor" At least I can keep my Spanish straight. But I'll never forget now! - Daniela2041, Dec 24, 2014

It would be along the lines of saying "Happy birthday cupcake **, sweetie pie, honey bun, etc** ". So it would be fine as a pet name like for a child, girl/boyfriend, etc. Not for someone you do not know well and are not comfortable calling them sweetie pie.

But it might sound better. Feliz cumplíanos a mi pastelito/a.

My wife calls me her pollito at times but if you called me your pollito it would be really weird.

I just knew that some other Spanish speaker would have the proper "modismo" Gracias, Andre. - Daniela2041, Dec 24, 2014
