Translation for these sentences?

Could you please translate these two sentences for me?

**"Por la ventana Cándido mira, sin ver, el pequeño jardín de su calle."

"En esa plaza ancha se encuentran los amigos los días de fiesta."**

I tried but the English translation I get doesn't make much sense.

"Cándido looks out the window, without seeing, a small garden in his street." - For the second one......."In this wide square these public holidays, they find friends"

First one, minor changes.

Cándido looks out the window without seeing the small garden of his street.

Second one-- a few more changes.

"In that wide square, friends get together on holidays." And you could leave "plaza" as it is because that word has migrated to the English language
