La Palabra Del Dia: "testigo"
testigo ( teh-stee'-goh )
noun ( witness )
There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
Guidelines:
Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Espero nunca ser testigo en un juicio porque tengo muy mala memória de las caras y peor de los coches. Si la policía me preguntara como se veía el ladron les diría algo como: Era un joven con el pelo rubio, o quizas negro, vestido de vaqueros y salió en un coche rojo..o azul.. Este no será una prueba de testigos muy adecuada.
I hope never to be called to court as a witness because my memory for faces is very poor and as for cars, even worse. If the police ask me how the criminal looked I'll say something like: Oh, it was a young man with fair hair , , or maybe he had dark hair, he was dressed in jeans and left in a red car.. or was it blue? This will not be a useful statement from a witness.
I was excused from jury duty because one of the witnesses for the prosecution was a good friend.

Hoy, el testimonio de una mujer tiene el mismo valor que del hombre. Sin embargo, en los siglos pasados, no había confianza en las palabras de una mujer y la sociedad no aceptaba a una mujer como una testigo clave. María Magdalena revirtió ese estado después de que había sido la testigo privilegiada de la Resurrección de Jesús
Today, a womans testimony has the same value as mans. However, in past centuries, there was no trust in womans words and the society did not accept a woman as a key witness. But Maria Magdalena reversed that status... She was the prime witness of the Christ Resurrection.

Cuando fui en colegio de abogados, nos enseñaron no hacer demasiadas preguntas. Una vez, un abogado estaba defendiendo un cliente acusado de morder la lengua de otro hombre. El interrogatorio del abogado de una testiga para otro hombre fue como esto:
Ab: Señora Ruiz, ¿usted ha dicho que vio mi cliente morder la lengua de la víctimo? Sra Ruiz: Asi es. Ab: Señora, ¿a qué distancia era cuando vio a mi cliente hacer esto? Sra: Quizas diez o doce metros. Ab: Señora, usa anteojos para ver lejos, verdad? Sra: Si, Señor. Ab: ¿Llevaba sus anteojos esa noche? Sra: No, no estaba. Ab: Señora, sin sus anteojos, ¿qué tan lejos puedes ver? Sra: Quizas uno u dos metros.
Ahora, un buen abogado habría sentado. Pero este abogado tonto quería hacerle una pregunta más.
Ab: Pues, Señora, ¿cómo sabe que era mi cliente, sin sus anteojos, de esta distancia? Sra: Porque él vino a mí y escupio la lengua a mis pies.
¡Culpable!
When I was in law school, we were taught not to ask too many questions. Once there was a lawyer defending a client accused of biting off the tongue of another man. The lawyer's questioning of a witness for the other man went like this:
Lawyer: "Mrs. Ruiz, you said that you saw my client bite off the tongue of the victim?" Mrs. Ruiz: "That's right." Lawyer:"Madam, how far away were you when you saw my client do this?" Mrs. Ruiz: "Maybe ten or twelve meters." Lawyer: "Madam, you wear glasses to see far, right?" Mrs. Ruiz: "Yes, sir." Lawyer: "Were you wearing your glasses that night?" Mrs. Ruiz: "No, I was not." Lawyer: "Madam, without your glasses, how far can you see?" Mrs. Ruiz: "Maybe one or two meters."
Now, a good lawyer would have sat down. But this foolish lawyer wanted to ask one more question.
Lawyer: "Well, Madam, how do you know it was my client, without your glasses, from that distance?" Mrs. Ruiz: Because he came over to me and spit out the tongue at my feet." Guilty!!
