estrenar ( eh-streh-nahr' )

verb ( to wear or use for the first time; to debut, to premiere )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1. Creo que esta noche en la fiesta estrenaré el vestido que me compré.

I think I'm wearing the dress I bought for the first time at the party tonight.

2. La última película de mi actriz favorita estrena este viernes. ¡Vamos a verla!

My favorite actress's latest movie premieres this Friday. Let's go see it!

La película "zindagi na milegi dubara" se estrenó en 2011 y es una película hindi que se rodaba en España, y me gusta mucho, les dedico esta canción de esa película a mis mejores amigos como D, A, I, S, R y muchos otros ,, es una fusión entre Español y Hindi donde thres Locos Amigos Indios bailan con chicas españolas y no saben o entienden español pero aún asi cantan con las chicas en su propia lengua.. haha .. es un poco chiste..

The film, "zindagi na milegi dobara" (which literally means "you won't get this life again") was released in 2011 and I like it very much, it is a hindi movie which was shot in Spain, I am dedicating this song from that movie to my best friends like D, A, I, S, R and many others, it is a fusion between Spanish and Hindi where three crazy Indian friends (just like myself) are singing and dancing around with Spanish girls,, they don't understand or know Spanish but still they are partaking in the song in their own language .. haha .. it is a bit funny..

Me encanta mucho la fusión de hindi y español ... I love the fusion between Hindi and Spanish .. sounds like heaven to my ears ..

Subtitiles included .. haha

The English should read " Have your shown off your new car yet" " To try out" is "probar" - Daniela2041, Dec 14, 2014
Dani, to try for the first time is "estrenar" I may be wrong but that's what the dictionaris say.. - Joydeep_Singh, Dec 14, 2014
Maybe Jack will take us all for a spin. :) - rac1, Dec 14, 2014
I checked with the SD translator--both estrenar and probar. Probar definitely has the meaning of trying out and estrenar to actually use something for the first time. Maybe I should write a dictionary. - Daniela2041, Dec 15, 2014

Nunca me gusta ir al cine poco después de cuando una película se ha estrenado porque la última vez que lo hice, hace muchos años, tuve que sentarme en un lado de la primera fila, y me mareé de verlo.

I never like to go to the movies shortly after a film has been released because that last time I do so, many years ago, I had to sit on one side of the front row, and I got dizzy from watching it.

I would have felt the need to say "uniformes totalmente negros" or "uniformes completamente negros"- but I do not know for sure that I am correct. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 15, 2014
I'm guessing that this photo is from a game in Noviembre (November) because I don't see any rosa (pink) which many NFL players exhibit in some form during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness. Perhaps this is a game against Houston. - Sassette, Dec 16, 2014
