Weekend Subjunctive Practice 6: Aunque
Explanation:
This weekend, we have a little bit of a tricky one for you! Aunque may or may not be followed by the subjunctive, depending on whether the situation is factual or hypothetical. The best way to explain is with some examples.
The first sentence in each set of examples below is stating a fact. It is cold right now but Im still not putting on a jacket. I am hungry right now, but I am still going to wait for you to have dinner. Therefore, each of the verbs that follow aunque are in the indicative.
The second sentence in each set of examples below is talking about a hypothetical situation. Maybe itll be cold later, maybe not, but either way Im not putting on a jacket. Maybe Ill be hungry later, maybe not, but either way I am still waiting for you to eat. Therefore, each of the verbs that follow aunque are in the subjunctive.
Examples:
1:
Aunque hace frío, no voy a ponerme una chaqueta.
Although it is cold, I am not going to put on a jacket.
Aunque haga frío, no me pondré una chaqueta.
Even if it is cold, I will not put on a jacket.
2:
Aunque tengo hambre, voy a esperarte para cenar.
Although I am hungry, I am going to wait for you to have dinner.
Aunque tenga hambre, te esperaré para cenar.
Even if I am hungry, I will wait for you to have dinner.
¡Os toca a vosotros!
