Advanced English Phrases 1

Hello everyone, I have come across with some videos on youtube. I have found them quite interesting, but as I am a non-native English speaker, I do not know how common they are, since the English language is spoken by many people in different places. I would like you to watch this video to give some comments about it. Thanks for commenting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4n_mcqz9XY

I copied these down as they were being given. They are.

Be that as it may --------- sea lo que sea

Make the case that-- ------- probar el punto de que

How? (in what way) -------- ¿Cómo? ¿En qué manera?

As opposed to ------- en vez de

Make a distinction between-- ----- distinguir entre o hacer una distincción entre

in terms of-------- en lo que respecta a or en términos de

When it comes to-- ----- cuando se trata de

Then again (reconsidering) -------- reconsiderando, repensando

is synonymous with ---------- es sinónimo de

What (ever) happened to? ------------- Qué le habrá pasado a

In the video these expressions are called English conversational "bits"

In modern language learning we call them "modismos" in Spanish and "idiomatic expressions" in English.-------No big deal!

Thank you Danini , would you say that these phrases ( frases ) would be in common usage amongst Spanish speakers ? - ray76, Dec 13, 2014
Yes, only a few are modismos. Most of them are just straight Spanish. Modismos are not usually transferrable between languages. - Daniela2041, Dec 13, 2014
Fantastic, Dani. Voté para ti! - sanlee, Dec 13, 2014

G'day Luisito , your blood is worth bottling mate , that is a ripper of a video .

Everything that you can use is always welcome and useful , i found this to be

excellent , although in every day speech in OZ we would not use some of them ,

but most of them as the presenter pointed out it depends on to whom you are

speaking with . Thank you mate for the effort and the thought ,Merry Christmas

también.
